JR in MS

This is my first post so I just want to say hello to everyone. I have been reading on here for over a year and the opinions stated on here led me to my actions this morning. I bit the bullet and ordered myself a mill. The good people at WM Mississippi steered me in the right direction, and around the 22cd of February I will be the proud owner of a LT40.
Any advice on what I can do between now and then would be greatly appreciated. I am like a kid waiting on Christmas.

Welcome to the Forestry Forum, JR.

I would suggest that you maybe contact WM and ask if they would send you the manuals to your mill.  Read up on it while you're waiting and you'll be a little ahead of the game!

With basic mechanical skills and the ability to read you can maintain a Woodmizer  LT40!

Welcome to the Forestry Forum, JR.  Adding your location (town) and your sawmill to you profile always helps with answering questions.

It would be helpful if you could visit a sawyer and spend the day asking questions and watching him saw.   :)

JR,

Welcome. What will you be using the mill for - personal or profit?

Read through the old threads here pertaining to your use. If for profit look for things pertaining to setting up your business, insurance, business cards, advertising, log sources, log handling, etc. Be sure to read the safety (and food :)) and other threads too. They have useful information too.

Welcome aboard,

If you plan on stickering and staging lumber. Tin, tin and more tin. Clear an area and try to get it as flat as you can. I use cylinder blocks on the ground and then stack and sticker on top. Cover with tin after.

JR,

Congratulations and welcome to the forum!  In addition to the above advice, you may want to update your profile to show your approximate location so that folks will get a better sense of your local conditions.  Then consider how your workspace will be arranged and what additional tools you'll need to accomplish that work.
