Posted some pics and wanted to offer up a link to a photo account so more detailed pics could be seen rather than the thumbnail sized ones here.  ???

Jeff

The link below explains why. No exceptions.

Thumbnail size?  Do you even know what you are talking about? The last photos you posted appear to be only a bit more then half the size they could be.

Your link and inane explanation starts out with worrying about pictures being over sized but then goes on the say the BIG problem is broken links and integrity.  Do you even know what you are talking about?

I was not trying to use outside hosting for the forum, merely to post a link to an outside photo library so they could be seen in greater detail.

If you size your photo's first to the longest pixel length (500 pixels) and then save the file, usually they will be under the file size limit. If not, reducing the file size last will give you full size pics.
Appears your pics are at max file size, but the lengths are about half what they can be.
I had the same problem, until I realized changing pixels was the first order of business.

But the easiest is to use the Java Uploader. It does everything for us.

Hope this helps.  :)

I think I will count to ten. Maybe 100. It may take 1000.

We allow youtube links if you have video. That should show the detail you might want to show.

45k for a posted pic is pretty small but, I guess the root issue has been stated.  My question again is what is the harm in posting a link to an outside library?

Warbird

That is the way the owner of the site wants it.  He'll have to chime in on what harm he sees but from where I sit, controlling content is much more difficult if you allow linking pics to outside sites.

Nice pics in your gallery, btw.  What kind of mill is that?

Tom

This has been gone over so many times that the answer was put in the directions for posting, and several other places.

When you put your pictures on Your Gallery in This Forum it will remain with the post as long as the Forum exists.  There will be no corruption of content.

If you provide a link to another site, the picture can be deleted by you or by the other site, either deliberately or by the other site going out of business. All of the posts on the internet that are linked to that picture will be left with a blank spot and a little red X showing that the picture no longer exists.

There is also the opportunity for crooked people in the world, and there are many, to take over that picture and insert their own image.  Wouldn't you be surprised to find that -Photo-bucket-, or a like company, lost their domain name and a pornography outfit took it over?   It's not unreasonable, it has happened.  When they replace the picture of your sawmill with a hard-porno picture,  guess who gets to see it.  Anybody who clicks on any post you ever made, anywhere that contains that link, will see it.  How would that make you feel. How do you think it makes the owners of the sites feel?

Links aren't just some benign string of letters that you put in your post, they actually go somewhere.  They are analogous to your pointing your finger.  That somewhere certainly has to be a responsible place because you are betting your entire future on the fact that your information or picture won't be used for purposes that you didn't intend.

Look through this forum and you will find red X's.  Not as many as in other forums, but they are there.  Some are from a crash we experienced, but most are from links that were allowed to outside sites.  Yes, there have been quite a few photo storage sites that went out of business.

Are you using someone els's site for the historic archiving of your pictures?  Better think about it. People have done that in the past and lost their family treasures, irretrievably.  You best keep the originals on your computer and backed up, to boot.

Jeff

Just a minor amendment on Tom's Post.  None of the broken links are from the crash. 100% of our data was recovered from the crash or 2007.

Here is a picture of everyone who attended the 2004 pig roast. Sorry, but I don't know how to load pictures on this site so I have linked to --Photos MUST be in the Forestry Forum gallery!!!!!--.

There is no need to say 'unleaded regular gas'. It's all unleaded. Just say 'regular gas'. It's not the 70s anymore. (At least that's what my wife tells me.)

I will defend this picture thing too. This is a family site.Lots of young kids on here.If you link to another site,we get to see ALL your pictures in some sites. Some pictures may not be suitable for a family site.Have to remember too,the forum pays for the storage of all pictures.Probably quite a sum each month.Would be cheaper to have someone else foot the bill, but sure not better.

The matter has been settled for this individual once he explained privately to me how "dense" we all were here.

Honestly though, if you can fart around with a digital camera and the software involved, other than the built in Windows USB connection wizard, how hard is it to upload them here? Not trying to be judgmental, but I think there is an element of not wanting to be bothered to take an extra step or two. It's easy I suppose to overlook the hurdles of viewing those huge bloated pictures on dialup connections when your on a broadband connection. Then that always seems to spur the debate that us dialuppers are backward because we don't live in large centres with customer bases that allow a company to setup such service. Time to look beyond your nose. ;) ;D

I moderate at a couple forums one of our rules is no live links outside the site
and there are members that dont understand why. even tho there is no real reason it is just the owner wants it that way and it is not up for debate as this subject is.

"dense" wouldn't describe his space between the ears. Between the pics and the pole barn issues, no amount of explaining kept him from asking why, and telling us that we didn't explain it yet. Some like to act like an airhead, and some prolly are (and don't have to put on an act).
