I have a friend that is waiting for a check as well as us. Might have to make a run outta state for 2 loads of shingles. The friend wants us to help him roof his house. He has talked to a couple of roofers, and did not like the way they were talking about fixing roofs.  ::) ::)

Can't even GET a price on shingles around here. I will go a better grade of shingle. I am selling this place as soon as I get it slicked up. ;D ;D

CK, keep adding to them instructions. I am all eyes and ears. Really appreciate the help.  ;) ;)

Don't want to change the subject (CK keep adding the info), but is anyone close to the Lakewood (might be Lakeland) trailer park, south of disney world? I for got the map that has the exact location on it.
Anyways, some relatives have a winter place there and have not been able to find out how it has come through any of these storms. If anyone knows that area, could you please let me know?
Thanks!

I'm not real familiar with Orlando area. I DO know that they were not hit as hard as we were, on the coast. Crosscut lives in St. Cloud, which is just outside Orlando. He talks about lots of tree damage and such, but, I don't believe thay got what we got. ::)

CHARLIE

Furby, there's Lakeland and there's Lake Whales up in that area.  Seems like they should be able to contact the Sheriff's Department and have them check it out.

Isn't Lakeland half way between Orlando and Tampa?

Yeah it is. Lake Wales is due south of Orlando, though. There are a bunch of little places named Lake something or other, too.

Some of the counties have an info service for absentee owners. You would have to have the specific address of the property, of course, then chase down the phone # for the right county. Probably take days at least to get the info.

My folks have a place in a condo. RV park at Lake Wales, according to several of their neighbours the place got pretty messed up.

So far they haven't been able to get down there, the gov. has been keeping snowbirds out to keep motel rooms for the residents who need them.

Their 'motel room' has 6 wheels under it but that didn't seem to make much difference either.

It seems harsh and unfair, Murf, but it is necessary.  Many people who live down here are not allowed to go to their own homes for safety and security reasons. In some areas, residents are being allowed ONE escorted visit, to gather belongings, then being shut out again.  It is just too dangerous in some places to let anyone in, except for trained professionals like power crews, etc.

I understand the situation, and the need for special measures during special times.

Maybe I didn't explain properly.

The nice people with the US Customs turned them away at the border. Now I could see if they wee at the airport, it would be hard to say they weren't going to need a motel room, but when they pull up to the border in a 36' 'rolling motel room' it's hard to understand the logic.

The area they in is not under curfew and access is not restricted.

DanG

Hmmm.  Can't explain that. ???

Maybe the Customs folks was afraid they were kin to the Murphys I know down here. ;D :D :D :D

ISP has been down...

FDH   glad you made it through ok.  Don't you just love being at the edge of the eye wall on htese hurricanes....  did you see any eye at all??  We had just a really short eye in the norther part of St Lucie.  Same situation as you with everything being backed up...
There was a truck sitting at I95 and indrio selling 30lb felt right off the flatbed trailer (semi trailer)  not sure what they were getting for it.....  sold the entire truck off before the authorities could get there to check the license issues. :P

Charlie.....  if you want to IM me your kin's name and address I'll go by there on my next day off to make sure the debris is clear of the driveway and house...  can't promise a complete cleanup though...  next day off is sunday.

FPL says all power will be up in three weeks.... they already have 50 percent up and running, but if you live off the beaten path it'll still be a while.   I went ahead and spent 4 grand and got a generator big enough to run most of the "temp" house but the gas aint cheap either. >:(

Looks like we will be moving out of Hurricane country fairly soon.  My wife already has a contract on a house in northern GA....  guess she's serious about it this year.  She wasn't here for francis but stayed for jeanne.....  it was the first ( and last if she can help it) hurricane of any size she has been through.

Fla._Deadheader

DonE, we never got to see any eye. We just get the full blast until the whole DanG storm passes.  ::) ::)

Can't seem to get the battery back-up to take a charge. I will try to keep in touch, until we get full power back on. Every morning the DSL won't lock on. Must be a lot of moisture in the phone line. By 5 PM, it locks on fairlt steady ???

FDH.... I thought you might be a little to far north to get any eye... thats what francis did to us. You back to moving debris yet or just working on the roof?

I finally got to see my insurance adjustizer yesterday... he says "this is a total, but don't do anything yet because the company will probably send someone out in a few weeks for a second opinion"   >:(      I called the Insurance Company today and gave them an earful...  seems they compromised... I can clean up anything that's on the ground or in no way nailed to the house.  That leaves 3 walls for them to come look at later if they feel like it....   ;D     no settlement for about 3 weeks...  I should have told them " no payment for 3 weeks " that'll even things up on my behalf. ::)

Fla._Deadheader

Still waitin to be paid for the first round of hauling. ::) ::)

  I work cheap, but, NOT for free. ;) ;) ;D ;D

Just ran a few pieces of 30# felt over the leaky areas. Waiting for the Insurance Check to see how much I gotta kick in to fix my "insured" roof.   >:(

  Wife is talking about moving.

Cant get her to even THINK about Costa Rica. Know she would like it, but,  ??? ???  And DanG calls ME hard-headed ;D ;D :D :D

Sure wood be nice to see some sparks flyin outta the wall outlets  ;D ;D ;D
