I ain't sure either, but I was thinkin' the head would be broader if it was a Copperhead. ???
I slew a baby Rattler in my yard the other day. He didn't have rattles yet, but was about 16" long. His head was broad, and got even broader upon application of the backside of my Logrite Hookeroon. ;D

I don't think he's a copperhead; body looks too slim toward the tail-end and head not big enough. My opinion is worth at least as much as you paid for it. ;D
Doesent copper heads a saddle markings on the back ?? I think the mark looks like a line across the back and two loops on the side.

Nope, not a copperhead, heads wrong. Some young copperheads here in the south have a sulfer color on their tail, and the tail is not that slender. Corn snake comes to mind, dont know why.
It looks like a Northern Brown Snake, but definitely not a Copperhead. I've been on a number of snake hunts with by Biology-major wife and you learn quickly which ones to pick up and which not to.
It's the right color for a gtound rattler, but doesn't appear to have the viper shaped head. Get a closeup of it's eyes and inside of it's mouth and we can tell more :D :D
The eye's will tell fer sure, if it doesn't have a cats eye then it isn't a copperhead.

Well I had the little feller on the hood of my pickup. Camera set on micro. I tried holding him up by the tell to get a better picture but he wouldn't hold still. I would try and get a close up of his head but it kinda looks like a squashed plumb now, if you know what I mean.
That is the rare and endangered Kentucky Slender-tailed Black and Brown Snake, I could tell immediately from the picture and description. The proper authorities will be contacting you shortly.
