Do Pitch pockets effect the grading?  Would this board be a Select or #1?

Thank you,
David

I don't work much with WP but according to the NELMA handbook, pitch pockets for C Select "Very small, well-scattered pockets permitted; maximum of one per four surface feet."

D Select- "Very Small, Well-Scattered pockets permitted; maximum of one per 2 surface feet."

For the Finish and Premium, it's just saying "Very Small, well-scattered."

I have the link here to the NELMA page if you want to take a look:

Hope this helps.

Thank you Luke. So It would be a #1 with that many and close together.

If it's just one or two boards with the pockets that close, I would go with #1.  If you're pushing 1m bf of boards like this, I would talk with your buyer and come to an agreement on selects.  Or edge it down a bit to knock off a couple of the pockets and call it a select.
