Hi everyone, I just received a felling bar with a cant hook attachment as a present. How does it work? Looks handy enough for rolling logs over.I have always used wedges and am not real familiar with this type of device any advice would be appreciated.Right now I am trying to decide if my wife is trying to be a caring soul ,who wants to make my life easier or if this is some sort of crafty plot to collect on my life insurance policy. Thanks DonT
I cant picture what your describing. Do you have a pic, or a web address where we can look at one?
I do.

Is this close to what you have Don?
A very handy tool. It's good for moving hung trees and for directional felling of difficult trees.

Don,
I have one just like it.
It`s also great for releasing a pinched bar.
It`s just the right size, easy to carry and a real asset when you need it.
I've seen some in use. It appears to be an excellent tool. Wish I had one. A good present for the wood's worker.
Thanks Everyone I can rest easy now.I have seen referance to felling bars in many of my forestry related books but as i said have never used one.I am glad to hear that others find them useful,my next trip to the bush i will be sure to take it along. DonT
I also have one, it is quite handy and you will be surprised just how much force you can generate. also pretty fair pevey/cant hook. I believe mine was made by fiskars (spell?) the company that also makes scissors.
Handy, very handy. Mine is a Husky brand, the price seemed stupidly high - about $37 as I remember, but I've seen them for that and more since.

Always remember to roll a hung tree away from you when using a felling bar.

Kevin listed a very important safety rule.
Just adding another:
When log is moving........LET GO!!!! Move back away from the logs travel, in a predetermined safe path !! !!!!!!!!!
You can be pulled, jerked, thrown off balance, etc., etc. into the path of the handle, the path/direction of the rolling OR sliding log!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can figure what....WILL.....happen to a human body parts!
You might have to go get the felling bar, and reset, or just to retreive it. BUT your SAFE.
Saw a very wise saying from PPL Utilities, "Safety Is Common Sense".
Stay safe, all of you.
