What is the difference, if any, between a 365 and a 365 Special?

tlandrum

some of the old 365's were open port and used a different intake

Thanks. Considering a 365 but not sure if I want to buy new. I only saw a few hours at a time and not every day. Just work my own woods. The best saw I have had so far is a poulan 4000 which I bought new and still runs strong.

The 365 while a little underpowered for it's size is a pro saw, it will knock the socks off your Poulan and last a long time with proper maintenance..

Those old Poulan 4000 saws run good.   Steve

They are probably the best bang per buck on the market right now. The new ones have the same displacement as the 372..with a price of a 555....different plastic and filter. Possibly different "caps" for the transfer ports..which is also how you can tell the difference between the new "X-torq" ones and the older specials with the truely smaller 48mm cylinder of the older design. I haven't seen an "open" port 365 other than a Chinese copy that turned up at our GTG's. My 365 Special I bought back in 2004 is a wonderful saw. Not quite a 372XP but a very capable saw. I'm not certain the difference in performance is enough to justify the price difference at times.

The 2166 is the Red version of the 365XT that Weimedog mentioned. So, in this case it shares displacement with the 2172 @ 71CC. As he said, excellent bang for the buck with these saws. "all souped up" probably means that the rather simple process of turning it into a 2172 has been done. You're going to enjoy it.  :)
