Woods ported 2172
« on: January 28, 2017, 01:31:02 PM »
What do you guys have to say about going with a woods ported 2172 or 372. Is it worth the money? Do they hold up? I am a full time conventional logger cutting 4-5 loads per week. I have blown crank bearings on both a 2171 and 2260. What have you guys experienced?

you don't need a souped up saw unless you've the ass to run it. If you're 25 years old and drink protein shakes all day, go for it. If you were producing 3 loads a day..maybe.. ;D

I've got a woods ported 2171, 2156, and husky 346xp. I've had them all done for 2 or 3 years now. They say if they're done right, they'll last longer than stock saws. I think it really helps with the small saws. Do I need the 2171 modified? I don't know, but once I had one saw done, I was hooked. The saws are so much more responsive and powerful

that's a easy answer , if saws are done correct that is the only way to go . I find a ported saw makes my life easier to produce a bigger volume of wood and ALOT easier on my body . If your having bearing trouble up the oil ratio, at 50-1 you will take bearings out but they will last longer at 40-1 with high test pump gas , I myself have never had one of my saws take crank bearings out ever and lots of those saws have cut a couple million feet

The guy that modified mine recommended schaeffers synthetic @ 32-1. That's what I've been running

Porting is definitely worth it IMHO.  The faster cuts add up quick in time saved and less fatigue.  But as others have said, it's what the individual wants.
