I have a balled cypress tree some neighbors dropped off.  The base log is nice, then there is the upper piece with lots of knots on the outside.  Is cypress a good wood to use for deck flooring, and maybe the rim around the edge?  Have treated for the joists, but was thinking about milling the stuff about 1 1/2" thick for flooring and rail, and maybe over the rim around the edge of the floor.  Should the cypress be oiled to make it last?  Or should I find another use for the stuff.  The base log is going to need to be trimmed to fit on my mill, over 3' in diameter.

Makes excellent deck, I would treat it with a wood preservative and stain like any wood.  It is my favorite wood to saw.  Makes good timbers, siding, furniture etc.  I even take the rounds and edge them and make massive barn doors.  They are light when dry look great. flat on inside and round on outer.
