noticed we live in a disposable society? From machinery to household items. Something as simple as a can opener to a $400,000 skidder. Nothing is built to last. There was once a Pride in Craftsmanship, not today.

Things use to be overbuilt too. Now the companies have it engineered to do just what it it made for. Like a loader designed to lift 8 ton.It might do more but will break after a while.

And when they break down the parts are obsolete. We have been running into that lately :-\!

Well this may be conspiracy in my opinion. If things from a can opener to a $400,000 skidder lasted forever, manufacturing company's would have nothing to sell us, or an item would only have to be sold once, and the world economy would suffer and then collapse. If they manufacture cheap disposable goods, we have to keep coming back for more and more and more. This constant buying and selling cheap goods keeps our capitalist economy moving. And allows large corporations to have high profits, wile everyone on the bottom struggles financially. Capitalism requires constant growth (cheap goods) or this economic system will collapse on it's self very quickly. Just my .02

I think it also has to do with a growing population. While the majority wants to work and earn a income that leads to more manufacturing and recycling and doing it over and over again.  Just can't see it work in the long run as we create way more problems on the other side.
Make sure you know how to fall properly when you fall and as to not hurt anyone around you.
Also remember, it's not the fall what hurts, its the sudden stop. !!

Yes, nothing lasts forever. Not equipment, cars or people. That elusive "fountain of youth" still has not been found. Cars and trucks that used to be ready for the junk yard after 100,000 miles are now only lasting 2-300,000 miles before they are junk.

And then there is that DanG'ed Capitalism getting in the way too. Every time someone comes up with a way to make something last forever, someone comes up with a cheaper way that doesn't last. It must be a dad gumed conspiracy.

this is my thinking I under stand the can opener not lasting 20 -50 bucks for one   a 400k skidder should last 20 years or more ??? ??? with no brake downs  for that kind of money :D :D

but if the equipment and goods would last longer people(consumers) would just spend the money on other goods and services, so it a wash in my opinion. they(we) wouldnt just put that extra money in the bank and save it. thats not the american way :D. now as far as big bad capitalism is concerned, there are plenty of third world countries to visit or live in that dont believe in it either. i feel very blessed to live in capitlalist America!!

Id rather buy something old from my neighbors that was built to last, rather than buy junk from walmart/harbor freight and cut in the governor.

Buying it once for more $ is still cheaper than buying junk 3 times.

20-50 bucks for one? How about 43 cents? And it's made of stainless steel and should last forever. That's if you don't abuse it. Same is true on the skidder. :)

I agree that some stuff is junk but some stuff ain't bad. Some good stuff turns to junk cause we're getting too old or lazy to maintain it.

Keep a shine on your junk and it will shine on you.  😕

Many folks feel those third world country's are poor dew to capitalism, free trade, and globalization. I do feel fortunate to live in America, I'm not well off, but I have food on the table, however American multi-billion dollar corporations are definitely taking advantage of cheap labor in those third world country's and are keeping them in poverty. Its these people that are making the cheap disposable can openers for us.
