So you're talking about doing widgets and stuff, but what size capacity machine are you looking at?

Quote from: stavebuyer on September 08, 2022, 02:56:55 PMOur main charcoal plants have been under pressure from the EPA to reduce ash which comes from bark. They used to take "dirty" chips and sawdust mixed which was a blessing for a small mill.
The main problem is the mixing of dirty wood chips and sawdust. If we process them separately, we can obtain pellets of the highest quality. Chips with bark must first be crushed to the size of a broken match. When the raw material comes out of the dryer, it must be sifted to separate the sand. The ash content in raw materials is reduced from 3-4% to 0.5-0.7%. The ash content in fine screenings is 15-25%. The purified raw materials are re-crushed and processed into pellets. Here is a video where the difference in the separated contamination is noticeable even in color.
The sawdust is cleaned using a similar sifter with a large sieve cell. The sifter is also installed after the dryer. This allows you to free the sawdust from gravel and pieces of bark.
Thus, even small production facilities with a capacity of 1-2 tons per hour become profitable when all waste is completely processed.

Judging by the bark picture and your most excellent magnifier picture, I would lean heavily toward one of the Red Oaks.

Thanks all,
and the peasant!  That was the first bird I shot over a golden retreiver that my parents gave me as a pup on my high school graduation in 1979.
So that bird was shot in 1980.

Not much for peasant in Wisconsin any longer and even then we planted alot through the loalFish and Game club.

Sure miss that style of hunting.

I occasionally have customers lay a tarp down to collect sawdust and afterwards use a leaf blower to disperse any remaining debris, etc.

From your description, you are safe from high water damage.  Mine is much difference with over 3 miles from the stream head giving me over 300 acres of water shed.  I would love to build such as you are doing, but my smallest bridge has over 75 acres if water shed.

Your project is very professional and I am sure will provide many years of enjoyment.  ffsmiley

The previous owners planted trees every 30 or so feet on the far side of my pond and I'm fairly positive that their roots are causing some of my leaks as well. I don't know that mine has ever really held water. They used to use creek water to fill it. I've got a pump to try that myself but haven't yet. The creek is full of mud, from running off the farm field across the street. My assumption is that my pond with fill with silt and dirt if I pump much in from there. If I got a big 250 gallon tote or whatever size they are I could fill it from farther down the creek, where it clears up but it'd take a lot of trips to empty the tote into the pond. Otherwise I'd need several hundred feet of hose and probably a much more robust pump.

Here's the latest picture of mine, yours looks way nicer Jeff.
