Title: Newbie with a question
Post by: samthesham on April 07, 2020, 05:05:52 PM
Been lurking on this site occasionally & finally joined as it seems like there is a wealth of knowledge here. I live in MD but own a place in south central PA that we spend the
most of our time. I burn firewood @ both places. I just cut some downed wood this morning but am not sure of what it is. Thought it maybe some kind of oak but am not sure. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

I don't recognize that (shame on me) but I wanted to say welcome.

Also curious how The Pharoahs were doing and if y'all stayed in touch.   :)

Looks like a fruit tree.  Maybe a cherry.

Ha.  Of Course.  No doubt a lot of people on here would.  It's surprising what a bunch of old sawdust addicts on here know.

I've cut cherry before but the bark on this looks entirely different. There is another thread on here posted by "towboat 88" with some pictures that look somewhat like I have. A reply on that thread stated his was White Ash.

I just split a piece of this & I think it may be some type of maple.

What was the elevation and general habitat where that was growing?

Map says 850 feet. Ash, maple, locust, cherry, etc

With the 2nd pic, I think that you are right about maple.
