i want to mill small diameter logs using the chip-and-saw type of method.
any advice or info is greatly appreciated. have found several types of mills that work like this but none that will specificly work for my application (portable)for the contraption sitting in my garage.

I don't see any advantage to going portable with a chip and saw.  The purpose of portable was to get the saw to the wood, and leave the waste in the woods.

Going portable to low quality logs does not seem to be a profitable adventure.  Have you checked your numbers?
