Lund Boats - Who Has Them
« on: June 25, 2021, 04:45:29 PM »
Some of you may have seen about my parent's boat being wrecked.  They had a boat accident and the boat was totaled.  They are fine.  We just came home from MN today after buying a new to them 2003 Lund 1700 Angler SS with a Yamaha 115 four stroke.  Dad was excited when I found this boat because it matches his truck perfectly.  Their wrecked boat was a 1997 Lund Pro Angler SS with a 70 Yamaha that we bought new in 1997.  That boat served us very well.  Before that we had a Lund 16' Rebel with 25 Mercury tiller.  Before that we used Lund rental boats at the lodge we used to go to.  Those were just basic fishing boats with bench seats.  We've come a long way since then, but had great times with those old boats.  My dad caught a 55" Muskie in one of those old boats.  We cleared out a whole section between seats to be ready to bring that fish in.  I scooped with the net and ended up putting that fish in the section where we had put all the stuff.  It was an amazing fish and safely released.

Does anyone else have or use a Lund boat?

I don't, but would like to. The one your Dad just got is kind of what I'm looking for. Probably a good 40% or more of the boats on the water in MN are Lunds.

Yeah, I've been looking in MN, WI, and MI, but most of what I've been finding has been in MN.  When we were trying to sell our first Lund, we were not doing well getting any lookers, so we took it up to a lodge on Leech lake where someone we knew worked.  The boat sold fairly quickly.  Right now with the way the world is, finding a good used boat is very difficult.  They are listed and sold within 48 hours.

Fished, bought and sold many lunds over the years.  After selling one last year, been looking for a newer fish/ski combo as family has expanded but prices and availability over the last year has been crazy.  Love the new Lund crossover series, but hard to find used and I'm too much a bargain hunter to buy off the floor new.

Lund makes great rigs, enjoy your new to you toy and happy fishing!

It was crazy how fast they were selling after listing.  I would find one that had listed that day and send a message.  Most would say they had someone coming to look tonight and the next day I would be notified that it was sold.  This one almost didn't happen.  Dad had made arrangements to drive up on Monday to buy it, but we couldn't get ahold of the guy for several days.  When someone finally answered his phone it was his ex wife saying that he was in the hospital and didn't know when he would be out to make the sale.  I began looking for other boats.  Coudn't find anything else and then he called and said he was out and able to meet.

Nope. mine is an 18', three seater Lowe Johnboat with a 25 hp Johnson. Works great on my local lake with small grandkids and fishing for catfish, crappie and bream

I drove lots of 18' john boats when I worked in the boundary waters and quetico park.  Wooden frames that we carried 2 canoes on, plus 4 guys and all their gear.  They had 25 horse motors on them.  We didn't go very fast, but it was a fun summer.

I have owned a few.
20 years ago I had a 21' Lund Sport Fisherman, it was a 1992 and one of the last cuddy cabin Lund built.  I sold it when I started to have small children, didn't use it as much as a smaller 16' Starcraft run-about I had as it was difficult to launch and recover by my self.   Squirrels were tearing it up so sold it before it was completely destroyed.   It had a oil injected 115 Suzuki outboard that screamed literally, it was loud, smokey, and fast.   It also had a 6hp Johnson that I used as a kicker.

Wife did like being stuck in cabin with the baby.   I would get it up on plane, and look into the cabin, and she and kid were like ceiling-bunk-ceiling-bunk-ceiling :D

I had a pontoon boat after I sold it, until the kids got big enough that the pontoon boat just was not fast enough, so I buy another Lund..  2009 18.5' Tyee which is lund, top of line with full canvas and bow cushions that could covert from flat deck bass fishing style, to bow rider:

That 135hp Honda, just purred when trolling and with the trolling plate, I could go 1mph on gps.   It had great setup for deep water trolling, with down riggers,  leadcore, and flyrods, I would fish 6 lines off of it.   Plus wife really like the bow rider layout so she could sun..

Sadly I sold this too, a few years ago as I moved from Lake Region in Sebago Maine, to NH where there are no nearby lakes big enough to fish regularly, and the one near by is public water reservoir, so no swimming.

It was too much money tied up for it not to be used, so it sold for almost what I paid for it, and guy who bought it drove 300 miles from Scranton PA to Londonderry NH to pick it up..

Miss it :'(, sometimes dream about it :(

Sorry, missing my boat on this summer day.. so few more pictures ;D

Beach day, spent a lot of time here, my kids grew up on this beach as was just couple of miles down my road to the boat launch.  And was why I did not use the 21' Sportfisherman much, it was too big for the crappy boat launch that was there..

Downrigger trolling, the upside down down-easter rod holder, would normally have a led core rod, but I think was only 2 fisherman that day, so only 4 rods allowed..  Port side was similar setup

Spring fishing.. Burr, this is where the full windshield and top came in handy, little  propane heater made it quite toasty.

Nice boats.  I looked at some Tyees, but dad did not want a full windshield so that ruled out the tyees and most of the Pro V's.  There was one Pro V that would have worked, but it sold before I could go look at it.  It was pretty much exactly the same as what we bought.

I have a 14' Deep V, your basic "resort" style with the bench seats, that my Dad purchased new in 1988 I believe.  We got a few good years out of it before he passed far too soon from cancer in 1996.

FF to 2021, I still have the boat.  I'm on my 3rd motor.  The original was a 15 Johnson that was also new with the boat and I got many years out of.  Was sad to put that one out to pasture.  A short span with a 15 Evinrude that was always fussy, and it now wears a 25 Merc of early 90's vintage.  Man does this thing move with a 25 on it!  I've possibly got more mileage on the boat hull than on my truck.  Definitely if you count towing mileage.  It's been everywhere from Northern Ontario and Manitoba, to the Western borders of ND and SD, in addition to all over the UP MI, WI, MN, and 3 different great lakes.  It's been as deep into the BWCA as you can go with a motor boat, across Voyageurs Natl Park from Kab to Crane and back, used extensively on every big 7 lake in MN as well as countless smaller ones and the Mississippi river from Brainerd to the Iowa border.  Over the years I've repaired a crack caused by a trailer roller that went bad on a 30 mile stretch of logging road in Canada with siding tin, roofing tar and rivets.  That was 15 years ago and the patch still holds.  I've replaced the seats a couple of times.  Drilled a hole here and there for accessories.  Added many dings, dents, and other such love bites.  The paint is basically gone, replaced with scuffs, wear, sand scrapes, and where left is a bit faded.  My Lund has a very "been there, done that" look for good reason...IT HAS!  The memories made in this boat are priceless, and added to every time it goes on the water.  I could afford a "better" fishing boat at this point in my life, but I love going out in the old Lund so much, I probably won't get one.  It still ships big water well.  People look at me funny, but I'm not scared of 4 footers in this boat.  It just slices through and bobbs between the troughs like my little Viking boat.  I've even had them venture out from shore in their big runabout to see if I needed help!

Love my Lund!

I don't own a boat, but I work in Vonore TN, I found out that some of the Lund boats are built here at the Sea Ray (Brunswick) plant.

There are a lot of boat manufacturers in East TN. In the same industrial park are Mastercraft, Yamaha Jet boats and HCB (BIG Fishing yachts)

That's great @Sauna freak  I have lots of great memories of my first trips to Canada on Eagle Lake fishing from a boat like that.  Not the best for comfort, but we caught a lot of fish.  One time in a storm I was sitting in the bow facing backwards as my dad was driving back to the lodge.  Wind lifted the front of the boat and threw me overboard.  I still remember realizing I was 6 feet underwater and swam to the top and dad was there yelling for me.

We have been working on the new to us boat for weeks getting it ready for fishing, dad more than me.  We are going to take it out for the first time this Friday.

We took our maiden voyage today.  The boat worked great.  The motor ran great.  We even caught a few fish.  Nothing to write home about, but it was a good day.  I really want to get this boat on a lake full of smallmouth bass and walleye and pike.

Hey everyone, I am a captain again!!
   sail_smiley

This weekend I purchased a 1997 Lund Rebel 16' with a 25hp Merc 2-stroke

Looking back at original post by FFOS, him and his dad owned one, but instead of tiller controls it is SS Adventure layout.

I was so tempted to launch on Memorial Day for a maiden voyage but the plant cops were at the pond landing and no registration or plant sticker is like a $1000 fine in NH, so have to wait until next weekend -so Monday I installed my downeaster rod holders from previous boat, and am working on setting up my down rigger + few other luxury items LOL..

Boat is immaculate, last time in water (by reg sticker) was 2003, so has been in covered storage for 20 years.  Mercury dealer has gone over the motor, and replaced the water pump impeller, and new batteries -both for electric start/electronics and for the trolling motor on front.    Looks hardly used, no wear on seats or carpet, and no scratches in paint or hull, looks to have been never beached.   I'm first one to drill holes for mounting things, except for the fish finder it already had.

Curious if the 25 Merc can go slow enough for the trolling I like to do, but for the price I paid I maybe can justify an upgrade to Honda 4 stroke as I do not want to add the weight or clutter of a kicker.. but will see how it does very soon.   Maybe just a trolling plate will be the ticket, as worked very well to slow down water speed with my 135hp Honda on my Tyee.

Now for Lund, I have owned Large, Medium, and Small -small is what I need for local ponds around me but it is still well capable of fishing on Winnipesaukee or Sebago.

I registered it yesterday, and have the letters -so just maybe cutting out of work early today for some fishin-smiley

I'm jealous! :D That would be a sweet package on our local lakes. Try it, if too fast for trolling you can attach a plate to the leg which flips up for those quick runs to the fishing hole or escaping an incoming squall. A lot cheaper than replacing the motor with a Honda which is somewhat heavier.

Nice boat.  I’ve done a lot of backtrolling for walleyes in a 16’ Lund and 25 hp motor.  It always went slow enough for me.  Probably same motor we had on ours.

My 2018 Smokercraft 16' with a 40 hp Yamaha can go as low as 2 mph, if I want to go slower, I'll probably just drag 5 gallon pails behind it.

Put a new 75 mercury on this 17’ Grizzly a few years ago.Looks kind of funny but boat is rated for it and I got tired of going 10 mph with three adults when it had a 25 hp on it.First time I put it in the river an old boy walked over to look at it and said (you must not like getting passed up much).Probably haven’t put 20 hours on it.Someone once told me a boat is a hole in the water you throw money in

:o Wlmedley wow -that motor makes your boat look pretty small.   Is it a 4 stroke?
With it nicely trimmed, how fast?   Max the Rebel is rated for is 45hp.

4cylinder 4 stroke .Mercury uses the same motor from 75 hp to 115 .The only difference is the computer the best I can tell. The fastest I’ve had it is about 40mph with someone heavy in the front but it’s kind of scary. The motor is worth more than the boat and probably a little overkill but I figured I can always let off the throttle.Half throttle is about right

@JJ that boat looks like it has a trolling motor on the front so it should go as slow as you want, don't run it with your starting battery.

I’ve always liked the looks of Lund boats.  They are great looking and seem tough too!

The photos of all y’all’s boats prove how nice they are!

For boats that live on trailers, aluminum is way to go for keeping weight down and easy launching.   Lund boat layout are designed by fishermen and hulls are the toughest out there.

Lund makes a good boat. They are especially sought after in the used boat market.
