Pick up this maple log last week, don't think its a red maple but not sure. I know red maple and silver maples grows around here but not seen any others here in central NC. Anyone has idea what maple this is? Sorry no leaves.

Sticking my neck out here to the timber identification guys, but what the heck. Every maple I've ever cut has a color variation between heartwood and sapwood. That white on the bark might just be a clue, might be a birch?

maybe a chalk maple, I've never heard of them but just looked them up

No idea what type of maple you have in NC but that bark is unlike anything ai have seen up here in New England.

At first they tried to pass it on as a Sugar Maple, I don't think we have any here in NC.

There is a southern sugar maple that grows in NC.  Georgia.  Also called Florida maple.  I have seen it get over 20" in diameter.
