Minnesota Logger Education Program

The Minnesota Logger Education Program (MLEP) is accepting applications for the full-time position of Executive Director. MLEP was established in 1995 to assist logging business owners in meeting ever-changing demands of their profession. MLEP provides assistance to Minnesota's logging community through educational programming. This objective is accomplished by partnering with numerous groups to identify needs and facilitate the development, design, delivery and evaluation of programs which focus on sustainable forest management, transportation, safety and business management. MLEP is a 501(c)(3) organization with a 13 person Board of Directors. Additional information about MLEP is available at

Duties and responsibilities: The Executive Director is responsible for assessing member training needs, developing and administering educational programs with various partners, evaluating the effectiveness of educational programs, organizing and facilitating meetings, managing the financial and data resources of the organization, filing appropriate reporting documents with the State and Federal governments, securing extramural funds in support of the organizationís mission, managing office staff and the general office, representing the organization at meetings and events, facilitating the creation of promotional materials for the organization, and serves as Program Administrator for the Minnesota Master Logger Certification program ( where duties include program promotion, ensuring program credibility, organizing certifying board meetings, and facilitating the audit process. Travel in a personal vehicle and frequent overnight travel is required. Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications required: Bachelorís degree; excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral in English; two years of work experience; self-starter who can work collaboratively; ability to work without direct supervision; demonstrated people and leadership skills, including time management, effective decision-making, conflict resolution, accountability and being results oriented; demonstrated ability to develop, prioritize, plan, implement and manage activities to meet targets and deadlines; experience leading meetings; proficient in use of a personal computer; experience with Microsoft Office; possess current driverís license.

Qualifications preferred: Bachelorís degree in adult education, business management, marketing, forestry, biology or natural resources; experience as a logger or natural resource manager; more than 2 years of work experience; experience designing, delivering and evaluating educational programs to adult audiences; experience with technology used to improve the engagement of an audience with education, provide online training, and to broaden awareness through social media marketing; experience arranging conferences or workshops; experience with a non-profit organization; experience developing and managing budgets for a business; experience with QuickBooks; experience with fund raising or grant writing; experience with grant administration; supervisory experience; organizational or educational marketing experience; knowledge of Minnesotaís forest management guidelines; experience with one or more forest management certification systems.

Salary and benefits: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Sick leave, paid holidays, and paid vacation schedule after 6-months. Includes a Simplified Employee Pension Individual Retirement Arrangement (SEP IRA). Other benefits negotiable.

Location: Must spend time in the organizationís Duluth office. Must have a personal vehicle available to use for travel for work purposes. Mileage is reimbursed at the Federal standard business mileage rate.
