I figured if I'm going to saw lumber I better be able to identify the tree's I'm cutting.   As funny as it may seem, I hadn't thought about it until just recently.  I knew I had some big trees on the property and somehow I just assumed they would be suitable for my project(s).

I researched trees found in my area of North Carolina and then went out to see what I had.  As luck would have it I seem to have a whole lot of White Oak.  Good news for me!  White Oak appears to be a great wood for building many of the different projects I've got planned and I'm lucky to have so much of it.

I'm actually having a good time walking around the property identifying trees, making notes and starting an inventory.   This is all probably old stuff to most of you but I'm finding it to be quite interesting.   smiley_thumbsup

White oak is good.

Yes, for many different things, from china cabinets to trailer decking. And even firewood. The acorns are edible, (so they tell me). Every part of the tree is useful.  :)

I am always looking up at my trees as I dive my tractor though my woods. It never gets old.
