That's a lot of road between you and there!

If you cross the Bay of Fundy let me know, I'm 2 miles from the ferry terminal and have a large yard.

Fried clams and Lobsta.

Hilltop366, we drove all of the way through New Brunswick last time and then to the tip of Cape Breton where we caught the ferry to Newfoundland.  I doubt that we will enter Canada this time.   :-\

WDH, Lobsta, yes, but no clams.

Do you guys have a timeframe?  Hopefully, we will be there when you go.  If you're camping, I can set you up on the property with a campsite.  Our place is 6 miles from Canada and 350 miles from The New Hampshire border.  We could have a MagicMoose Meet!

Not absolute yet.  Our May is already used up, and probably June too because we always have the family at the Cabin on July 4th.  Right now I am hoping soon thereafter.

Southern WV seems to be right on the route from Brookhaven to Bay of Fundy. I have a big lot in front of the house aching for visitors. Love to have you and Miz Pat stop by if it works out. 8)

Come see The C Farm rocks.  ;D  Better hurry. I dug out 6 last night and put them into the bog. I would hate for you to miss out on the rocks.  :D
No need to bring any grits. I have a lifetime supply.  :D

The absolute very first thing that I did to that map was to find and highlight Chesterville.   ;D

I went to Chesterville once. Saw a big pile of hemlock and a lot of new Orange sawmills. 8)

That's on the other end of Chesterville.
This side has a pile of rocks and a green and yellow sawmill.  ;D

The boat on the cover is the kate.in Greenville. When built it was used to tow log booms on Moorhead lake. Now you can go for a ride on the big lake

Magic, I have spent many, many happy hours in Maine. The beaches in the southern part of the state are beautiful. (but the water is cold) When my children were young we vacationed a few times in Wells. We always had breakfast at Congdon's, one of the great breakfast-lunch restaurants in this country. I've canoed the Moose River out of Jackman several times with the boy scouts and I've fished Moosehead Lake both summer and winter. Once a year we drive up to my wife's favorite place in Maine ::) the LLBean store in Freeport. Maine is a beautiful state and I expect you will have a good time while you are there.

   All the best, Cutter

On our last visit we fairly well traveled the coastline before exiting at Calais.  Our sorta plans this time is to take a couple of boat rides and then to go as far East as Freeport before making a loop North and then back West.

Actually we did too Gary.  We also stayed along the coastline on our last trip which is why we want to travel North and more into the mountains/interior this time.

Big spender...next you'll just need someone to drive you out onto the beach. Perhaps a cooler with some cold refreshing drinks and an umbrella to hide under.

When you purchase a surf tag for you 4x4 you are able to use it as a license and fish by you vehicle. It only works on the beach with your vehicle and only for 1 person. But if I go buy a license I can fish anywhere in the state all 2000 sq mi of it...more or less and keep all the polluted fish I want or am allowed too. For the longest time you didn't even need a license to fish it tidal waters, some time around or just after 2000 you needed a license to fish them, but salt and fresh are still the same one.

That license will also allow crabbing, then when you get to Maine you need to get Lobstah!

So is that trailer a "toy hauler" with the back hatch?  Figured your mill must be inside ;)
Title: Re: Maine??

Not a Toy Hauler.  Just a short 23' fifth wheel, rear kitchen, center couch & dinette, bath, and front queen walk around bed.  219 RKS (http://www.allencampermfgcoinc.com/upload/219%20RKS..pdf)  Lightweight and just large enough for two people.

Title: Magicman and PatD visit the Goat
Post by: POSTON WIDEHEAD on June 29, 2017, 10:52:01 PM
All the way from Mississippi......Magicman and PatD pulled into the mill this afternoon.

Thank goodness they didn't bring any Red Bugs from Georgia.....  :D.......WDH.

We sat on the sawmill deck and chatted for a while.

Magicman served a little time behind my Cedar Bars.

I was really happy that Lynn and Pat got to meet my 91 year old Dad......and of course on his tractor as usual.

A little more chatting under the Pecan Tree.

Here's Pat and Julie

Magic with my Funny Money.......

......so he pulls out his Magic magnifying glass to see how funny it is.

Then its off to some fine dining at the Pump House down on the Catawba River.

The Pump House was once used to pump water from the river to a plant that employed a lot of people. Since then the company closed and it was turned into a restaurant.
This restaurant stands 5 stories high.

We go up an elevator to get to out reserved table.

No Lynn.....you cannot order "Justin Beaver" for supper.

Time to eat!

After our mill we went up to top floor to take in the view of the river and watch a few folks enjoy the water.

What a great time spending time with FF friends......even though both of our phones were either ringing or text were coming in about people wanting their lumber sawn.  :)
In the morning Magicman and myself will load some lumber for a customer, early, and then off to a good Country Breakfast.

Friday Morning June 30, 2917

So out morning starts with myself and Magic fixing a cup of coffee and touring the farm and other places of interest.

Then my morning customer calls and he's 30 minutes early to pick beams up.
Magic and I get to the mill and half the load is already loaded by hand.
I introduce them to Lynn and law and behold my customer is from Mississippi.  :o :o :o
They both knew family names from the Mississippi area. Small world.

We then picked PatD up from the Castle on Wheels and it was off to breakfast.
Making adjustments to our SC menu didn't take long.....I COULD NOT get Lynn to try LIVER MUSH!

With our belly's full it was time to pack up and for them to head North....against my recommendation.  :D :D :D
One of the best times of me and Julie's lives having Magicman and PatD here to visit.
A real treat!!!
........On the road again.....(old song).

Not nosy coxy, we traveled I84 through NY, and CT.  We did not actually stop in NY and made one stop/visit in CT.

Yup, it's the right place.

And we met the right folks; (Kevin, MM, Tammy, & Pat)

Kevin gave us a guided tour through the entire Logtite/Riteleg,Bluecreeper facility.  "Wow" best describes all of the cutting, welding, bending, polishing, and mixing being done throughout the plant.  Thank you Kevin.

Thank You Kevin & Tammy for the wonderful time that we spent visiting you.

Don't know how I missed this thread for so long. Guess I need to devote more time to  smiley_book2_page the FF. It was great finally getting to meet Gary, Lynn, Joe and their lovely wives Kay and Pat.

Seems no one took the bait on the Assawoman sign photo MM. I was guessing that the goat would get a snicker out of that.

Thanks Gary and Kay for the hospitality. I was wracking my brain trying to think of something to bring along. Came up empty (not unusual for my brain...). Now it dawns on me. Scrapple! But I don't think it would do to well in the mail.

By the way. I'm not really that short. Joe and Gary are REALLY TALL. That's my story anyway, and I'm sticking with it.  ;)

20 miles out must being fishing or a whale watch boat. Cause they can't pull lobster traps on Sunday and the lobsters are inshore by now or should be with water temps in the low 60s

Now the proper way or my to eat lobster is. I. Get everything thing I want out of it put it in its own bowl then get ride of the shells go wash your hands. Now comes the fun part watching those that have never seen one before try to attack  it. And never ever let it squirt on anyone else. Shredders are easier to get apart and the meat is sweeter but there isn't much in them. Hard she'll having a 2 lb. Hammer helps

I don't think that I did too badly "shucking" those two, especially after watching other folks attacking theirs.  They were OK, but quite frankly I/we prefer to eat Lobster Rolls.  I am sure that is what we will get today after we get back from the Whale Watching boat ride.

We will continue our travels North up Hwy 1 tomorrow.  We will also be on the lookout for a parking spot for the camper when we make the Bar Harbor day trip.

Yup, I know that there is no possibility of camping on the island itself and probably would not want to if I could.  I'll just be looking for a place to park, hopefully have AC to plug into, and then make a day trip to the island.  50 miles away is no problem.

We made our Whale Watching trip today.

Leaving out this morning we passed by the Lobster boat that we were on Yesterday.

It was a perfect "Blue Sky" day.  We saw water spouts (blows) and several whales ~12 miles out which was the furthest that we had to travel.  It met all of our expectations and was a wonderful day.

Then back to Kennebunkport.

For Lobstah Rolls.

And Peanut Butter Pie Ice Cream.

Kinda doubt Blue Bell. But I don't go where MM is during the summer months. I do see Blue Bell in the stores behind glass doors. I have been to Belfast for a wedding. One section I could of walked faster on route 1.  :D

Yeah know they say cold is worst than heat. I'm not sure I believe that, but apparently their are stats out there.

Nothing any nicer than 50 degree temps in the morning, and a little overcast to keep the sun out of the eyes, when swinging a brush saw in the thickets. ;D

Enjoy the journey through Maine, Lynn and Pat. :)

It was hot enough for ice cream tonight but still chilly enough for a campfire.
Da ice cream lady was 0 for 3 on the order taking.
She even got the guy's order behind us wrong.  All we could do is laugh and eat it.
The guy making fire knows what he's doing though.

We traveled Route 11 South from Ashland and spent last night in Millinocket and will continue our travels today on Route 11 & 2.  We did stop in and tour the Patten Lumbermen's Museum.

My apologies to SwampDonkey for not being able to visit with him.  Even though we are not on a schedule as such, our travel time is still somewhat limited due to an early August Doctor's appointment.   :-\

That's Ok Magicman. We are in the midst of things here with selling the house and site prep for the new place. It would have been no trouble, but better times ahead, so to speak.

We've had 12 viewings this spring, it will come together eventually. Houses sell well in Grafton. :)

We usually go to the museum in Patten, second Saturday in August for the bean hole dinner.

Reflector ovens with biscuits and bean pots buried in the hill to the left, coals on top. Big 'ol coffee pots. ;)

Sounds like we have been in the same neighborhood.  We have seen a few very large sawmills.  One a ways up Rt 11.

We have seen moose on past trips, but so far none on this trip.  Maybe there is a holdout in NH.   ;D

Yes,it was a joy to met both people from MS.  ;D  They almost found me. He was only about 1000 feet away. I did not even have time to get washed up.  I really do clean up good. I was outside working and was on the dirty side. But them people from away did not seem to mind at all. I had a good time visting.
Dixfield? Are you at the campsite that is between the river and Rt 2?
You might not have even passed Irving sawmill. Can't see much of it from the highway.  I sold them alot of white pine.
Breakfast out? Turn at the light in Dixfield,Weld Street?,about a mile on the left hand side is a fine place. Looks like a small store, but can seat about 40 outback. We just find the place about a month ago. Nice place to eat, nothing fancy, but good food.Seem like it was across from the school.

Well we didn't run across a Moose this visit but Magicman did spot a Deer in the pasture while we were talking on the porch.  I video taped it but it was about 200 yards away and the phone camera barely picked it up.   My groundhog hung out within 30 feet of me for a couple hours yesterday and today.  He's eating weeds and grass.  Him and I are good friends now.

And then Don's Wife Cheryl gave us a tour of her Art Studio.  Another eye popper.

Next on the tour was Don's Sugar House.

Where he explained the "Sugaring" operation.

And that the year is not over until next year's wood is cut, split, and stacked.

From the Sugar House we moved on to the Saw House, where Don explained that operation.

We left Don and Cheryl's place filled with the Friendship that they had shared with us.  Our Thanks to you both for your kind and generous Hospitality.

The above pictured Timber Board Game will eventually make it's way to Jeff and the Forestry Forum.  The Maple Syrup will not.   ;D

Our last visit (too short) in N.H. was with Bruno of NH.

Jim has a very promising startup sawmilling and lumber business and I predict that he will do well.  Pat and I both enjoyed visiting with him and leaving was difficult.  This guy has a true heart and I wish that we could have stayed longer.

Those of you that are following this Topic and usually do not read the Timber and Logging Board will be interested in this sad news:  LINK (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php/topic,97090.msg1498293.html#msg1498293).

Also refer back to Replies #131 & 135 on page 7 in this Topic.  I was not planning to stay a Woodhauler's (Ronald Carter) place but he reached out to me through a PM and cellphone text.  I will forever remember and cherish meeting Ron, his Wife, Son, one of his two Daughters and three Granddaughters.

Rest in Peace my Friend.

I encountered something today that I have not seen in many years.

A gasoline pump without any option to select different grades and no option to "pay at the pump".

We drove through the "Land Between the Lakes" in Kentucky this morning.  The Buffalo were there but in the shade.

This thermometer changed from 44° to 45° in Maine before I could get a picture.

And this one changed from 101° to 100° in Mississippi before Pat could get a picture.  It is HOT down here, still 98° as I write this.

I had to put a Flannel shirt over my t-shirt late afternoon because the cool breeze was whipping.
Only 68 degrees in the cabin. ;)

Title: Re: Maine??
Post by: Magicman on July 23, 2017, 10:41:50 PM
Now I will readily admit that I/we did eat some Lobstah Rolls.

Our kinda eating routine when traveling is to eat a cereal breakfast, stop at McD for a sausage/biscuit mid morning, and then lunch/supper about mid afternoon.  If we run out of steam we may eat a bowl of cereal or a few peanut butter/crackers with some milk before bedtime.

Of course there are times when Ice Cream gets snuck in.  ;D

I have seen your posts with scrumptious lookin food and cant believe you and pat are are dieting while on the road.

So now someone needs to remind someone how tall their ice cream was !!!   :o

So next we will probably be told how it was dumped into the trash can so that he could eat the cone.  ::)  Now, who in their right mind would believe that??   ???

Hey, thats the cone I whacked the top off into the trash can. ;)
I went back a couple nights later to order another small cone.  The Mainer Ice Cream server lady took my order and walked away.  She comes back to the window and asks " Was that a small or large again?"
She is 0 for 5.

A sad image of Woodhauler's (Ron Carter) truck door.  I told Mooseherder more than once how much I enjoyed meeting Ron, and what a great guy he was.  Loosing him was a sad Forestry Forum day.  :'(  It was our joy and pleasure to meet Ron, his wife Cathy Katie, his Son Nathan, a Daughter, and three Granddaughters.  They will all forever be in our hearts.

A pretty lady beside a pretty stream.   :)

This is the furthest North East that is possible to drive to in the United States.

And now some random ramblings about some things that we saw in the Glaciated North:

Mail Boxes hanging by chains.
Large Stars on many homes and barns.
Firewood for $3.00 per bundle.
Granite curbs instead of poured concrete.
Big Houses and Barns.
Barns with many windows.
Steep hills, both up and down.
Lobster Rolls.
Pretty streams.
Rocks, many rocks.
High and Low tides.
Victorian Houses.
WDH has Redbugs.
Woodhauler's Log Truck.
Black Metal Roofing.
EAB killed Ash trees.
Pepsi instead of Coke.
Road reconstruction, and much more needed.
People talk funny.
Houses that are built and built on to until they finally reach the barn.  I suspect that this makes it easier to get to the barn when the snow is as high as the cows milk.   ;D
Town Boundaries that extend miles from the town.  ::)
Virginia has a State Police or Sheriff Deputy every three miles.   :o
Dunkin Donuts everywhere.
loggah's Relics.
Cheryl's Paintings.
Grillin' Chef Glenn.
Ladders on roofs.
Hwy 119 through Pennsylvania.  :o
Exit numbers are different from the mile markers.
If West Virginia was pressed flat, would it be larger than Texas?

Thank You to each Forestry Forum member and family that we had the pleasure to meet during our travels.  My apology to those that we unknowingly drove past.  The suggestions and recommendations were also valued and each added a bit of joy to our travels.

The mail box on a chain is the best set up.when the plow hits it no damage and you don't have to go look for it. Granite curbs yup lots of them. A lot of granite here. The license plate on the excavator if you put a plate on it the town can't charge the business tax on it
