Here's a little red oak I topped, dropped and blocked today.
One of three, a yellow birch,a maple and this red oak.

I could hear the saw, and I was wondering where you were.  I figured that I would find out soon enough, and I did :).  Looks like a fine butt log.  What will happen to it?

I was ordered to block it up for firewood.  :'(
It wasn't good enough for veneer but it was a dandy tree for lumber.
No demand for lumber and demand for firewood was the deciding factor.

That's disappointing. :-\ It's tough to see a good log go to firewood because it isn't a walnut or cherry.

It looks like you took a pretty good ride when that top came off.   That would have cost you at least $2 at the fair.  :D

Kevin

I've had better Tom.  ;D
There was a lot of weight over one side, above and behind me so I kept it on the tree as long as possible to offset the unbalance.
When you don't release the top soon enough it creates a little larger bending moment at the top.
You have to know when to hold them and when to fold them.  ;D

This is the couple I was working for...
