How many of you have had a chance to utilize this portable Alaska style mill? I have one being offered to me extremely cheap.

Hmm, why so cheap if it works? Looks like an interesting idea though, it would be faster with less waste than a conventional chainsaw mill.

My uncle is 88 and he bought it 6 years ago to mill a walnut and a large plum tree.  Not enough energy in the old gent to do more trees.

From what I have read they they dont like bark or dirt much - like most bandsaws.
One guy was using an Alsakan style mill to strip the sides and top off his logs, a chainsaw mill is a lot more forgiving of bark (or at least easier to sharpen). Then once he had a clean square cant the ripsaw did a good job slicing it into boards. Faster and less waste than the Alaskan.

If it's your Uncle you can probably arrange to try it for a weekend and see how it goes?
