Is it after the first hard freeze? What's the best choice?

What are you concerned about?  They are not going to stain this time of year.

From my own experience pines cut here in any warmer weather get buggy real fast.

 I was simply looking for the "voice of knowledge", not a specific worry I have about staining.

Harvesting is okay any time you can get in the woods.
Pruning is best when they are dormant. Dec-Mar.
