We lost one of our boy's today. He was having trouble breathing so my bride took him to the vet today. He was full of cancer that was impeding his lungs. Only 7 years old.

Wallace is on the left. He was happiest when someone was petting him. Didn't care much for playing ball or other such nonsense. Always had a story to tell us when we got home.
We're going to miss him :'(

That's tough, especially on a not old dog you're not expecting to be that bad.

Losing a good dog is hard, true. Yet tomorrow comes and fills us with new challenges and if you look hard enough, many joys. You'll be ok.

I'm really sorry, Moose! Losing a dog is a unique kind of pain, I've found. You form a special bond with your dog that few, if any others share, so it's hard for them to understand your pain. It hurts almost as bad as losing a person (maybe not for as long) IMO. So you kinda get to walk through it alone. I had some very kind folks reach out to me via PM on here when we lost one of our dogs, there's lots of dog people on here that empathize with what you're going through, I can say that for sure. I'm glad you got Wallace in right away and he's no longer suffering. Good dogs leave lots of good memories, try to dwell on those.

MH - so sorry to hear about Wallace.  It's truly not fair how short the lives are of our most beloved companions.  Not having any 2 legged kids that any woman has felt it was worth admitting to, my dogs are my family.  It is the hardest thing to do, but being there with them when it's their time to pass is the greatest love anyone can show.  I type this looking at my two Bassets, The Sausage Sisters, as they approach 10, knowing each minute passes us by.  Love on his buddy, he will need it.

Thank you for all your kind words.
Both are Springers, from the same litter. It's kind of strange but the two brothers never really bonded that well. Polar opposites you might say. The The only time they slept together was was in their kennel. Grommit (so far ) seems to be in deferent to loosing his brother.
I don't know that we can spoil Grommit anymore than we already spoiled both of them but I'm sure we'll give it a good try!!

We all secretly hope or assume we will outlive our dogs.  It is painful to see them go and we miss them.

I sometimes think the old Vikings had the right idea. When they died their family and friends loaded their favorite weapons, belongings and dogs on a ship, and had a funeral pyre so they all went  Valhallah together.

Sorry about the loss of your pup.  Its so hard to lose a good one.  I would have guessed they were Brittanies.  We lost our Brittany a few years ago.  We now have a dog that we are guessing is mostly Welsh Springer with her darker color.

The loss of one makes room for another. We thought it would be good to find an adult to fill the void left by Wallace leaving us too soon.

This is Dixie. She is at least 13 years old. She had a rough time of it at least lately. When found she was just a skeleton, matted fur and full of fleas. The pound had her for about a month before my wife found out about her. She has been with us two weeks today and has put on some weight, her hair is growing back. She is a sweetheart. We're lucky we have her.

Lost my dog as well 7500 later 13 yr old golden retriever died of heart complications.  Miss that old guy.  As with cancer i dated a chinese herbalist and i never give advice consult your own research. She had a man come into her shop with a 4 cm tumor on side of his neck and in 3 months it was gone.  Imagine what we are not being told about certain herbs.  I was even reading about a natural plant in chile that once eaten is more powerful than viagra.  Your dog went to a good place and is waiting for you. I have died in my life 3 times and came back.  From surgery to drowning as a child i have had experiences.

You have done a wonderful thing for that gal, I am sure you will be repaid many times over for giving a good loving home  to an older dog. My wife and I have 3 rescue dogs and 1 rescue 13+cat which is nudging my leg as I type. the last  dog was about 7 and he has become my best buddy, just wants to be near me or be able to see me when I am out working and likes to travel with me between our places (220 mi).  We have decided that if any of our dogs pass we will only be looking at older (like me) dogs, do not have to potty train or go thru the chewing up things stage.   again, I am sure you will be greatly rewrded for what you have done.
