Need close-up pic of bark and open cones and how many needles to a fascile (the little tape like thing at the end that holds the needle cluster together).

The one on the left in the second photo from the top is what some local guys call a "#1 log" pine when trying to sell it to me.... :D

Shortleaf pine.  Pinus echinata.  One of the four major Southern Yellow Pines.  These are at the limit of their range.

From Native Trees of the Southeast

"Leaves evergreen, persisting 3 or 4 seasons, 2 1/2" to 5" long, 2 (occasionally 3 per fascicle), not twisted, fascicle sheaths 1/8" to 1/4" long."

Yours are solidly in the range of needle lengths.

Ok. Thanks.
Very disappointing SYP. Twisted and weak.

Ah, probably no worse than bloated and heart rotted :D. Web members can often be #3, a good place for curved character stock.

Sedgehammer

Yeah, but. Hate that expression. Always tell/told my kids, no yeah buts...... :o
These are the sorriest examples of SYP I've ever done seen. There's a good pine (different species), that's right next to these that looks like a good type. I'll post a few pictorials of it when it decides to stop raining on my parade.

Sedgehammer

It's different. Trees on the left are loblolly per neighbor who planted them in first pic. He also said my trees were planted first, but as you can see are much smaller and not near as straight
2nd pic shows the needle length. Tree on left is a loblolly. Tree on right is those in question. Clearly shorter needles on tree in question.

Your short needled tree could be another species of pine and not shortleaf.  There are several short needled yellow pines.

Nah, you both blew it.... They are all out of air... You know, deflated... They can't handle all the pressure.... They went round and round, but fell flat....

You all are getting a lot of miles outta this but about to run it in the ground.

It could be as simple as the fact they were not planted during a Goodyear, they just seem to be skidding along, could take a turn for the worse at any moment.  Had to get that plug in there.   :D

They are well rounded though, as they were able to smooth things out when they couldn't get any traction.

I ran into trouble when my Pirellis skidded crossing the Bridgestone driving my Continental into Yokahoma because I don't TOYO around Mr. Cooper! When I got out of my car I fell on my Sumitomo and almost broke my Hankook.  :D

Perhaps the initial identification is wrong, but I hate to second guess @WDH since that is his WHEELhouse.  ;D

It could very well be Scots Pine which is a 2 needles to the fascicle yellow pine with short needles.  You typically see it further North but it has been planted widely.
