Thanks guys.

The light comes on before starting the motor, once running it goes out.  I assume it is working correctly and have used it to mill several logs since.

Seemed when the exciter wire was unplugged it did not come on and I thought it would to indicate and issue, doesn't appear to work that way.

Sweating dynamite is caused by the energetic migrating out of the stabilizer, rising to the surface as crystallized or liquid beads of very impact sensitive energetic.

Blasting caps are bad news, and have long since been eliminated except in emergency situations.  Typically, all initiators these days are either some form of EBW "Exploding Bridge Wire" or otherwise verified 1 amp, 1 watt safe.  Just basic radio frequency could set off blasting caps, especially when an untrained operator would be setting up for a shot and untwist the two wires eliminating the safety short, essentially making a perfect set of "rabbit ears" antenna.

The armed services learned long ago that poorly designed or unstable energetics is counter productive because a tremendous amount are fired during training, and we got to keep our guys safe.

You might be interested to know that in the 32 years I was a Level 3 explosives handler, we never got hazard pay, simply because we were so well trained to design, build and use energetics that is was a routine and daily operation, so wasn't considered hazardous if done by the book, and since we wrote the book, we shouldn't have any issues.

I hate seeing logs like that  smiley_thumbsdown  and that is enough pitch buildup to wave the blade.  :uhoh:

That is when I am running my LubeMizer on continuous.

Our harvest trees are marked with a paint swath at breast height and another on the stump/roots.  The color will be designated on the contract.

Wildlife trees are flagged with ribbon around the perimeter.

So basically the ship was going to be sunk anyway.

Quote from: beenthere on Today at 09:37:25 AMI often, not always, use a wedge to keep the tree from setting back onto the bar. More than once, wish I'd thought to do that before it happened. More of an insurance thing, than a "must do" as it is so much easier than pounding on a wedge to raise that tree back up.
I do this often, also.

A few weeks ago I took some L shaped scraps that the students use to practice welding on and made a tabletop jig for them to use.  A full 2x4 will fit inside the hole, although it currently has a 1x4 in it.  The idea behind this it to hold the narrow edgings off of the edger and accumulate them.  The forks will fit between the board and the edgings and if spaced and marked, they can be bundled to be sawn to length for stickers.  We used it yesterday and it seemed to work pretty well.

Quote from: SwampDonkey on Today at 12:58:58 PMWhy no ban on green sawlogs moving? That was likely where most moved volume wise.

I asked this exact question of the folks in our state that were in charge of the firewood movement restrictions when they were put in place. THe answer was "lobbying from the forest products industry." The regulators were told if they restricted movement of ash saw logs and pulp it would cripple a whole industry.

We just sent out a good-sized pack of 1x6 and 1x8's and also sawed a 12"x18" live oak for a fellow.  The fellows who bought the pine drove from a couple of hours away and showed up with a box trailer with a ramp.  John nor I wanted to handle these boards again.  With the telehandler and a little creativity, we were able to load the whole pack in one shot.f

The last little (12" small end) pine log we sawed was loaded with pitch.  Logs like this and the live oak have us considering installing/making a lubemizer type arrangement.  I think we have just about enough spare parts, minus a pump, to build one.

The band was slipping a bit on the new B56  belts, even when running the blade tension over 3000 psi.

After looking at the website, TMG mills look like so many other entry level mills.  They are pretty light weight to hit a certain price point.  For my money, I'd save my pennies for something more substantial.
