Title: Favourite notching saw
Post by: Lyndaker on January 07, 2021, 10:42:18 PM
I'm looking for another log building/notching saw. I currently own a Stihl 361, 034, and 009. The 034 is attached to my Lewis winch, the 009 is a gutless wonder, and the 361 keeps getting heavier. My shoulders and elbows are telling me they don't like running the 361 all day long. I want a lightweight professional saw, suitable for scribe fit log construction. Currently I'm leaning towards a Stihl 261 but its not set in stone. I've even looked at the husky and Stihl battery saws but not sure if they'd cut the mustard? So all you scribe fitters out there give me your "unbiased factual opinions" on your favourite saw for scribe fit construction.  :D

I don't want to hijack your thread, but I'm after the same info.  For cutting saddles and lateral grooves, I was going to ask what are the absolute best reputable Husky saws in the 55cc - 60cc range.  I do have a 351 and 353, also a ms260, but am thinking something a little bigger will be required.  I do have a 372xp, but want something of less weight.

The 261 is a very good saw and has quite abit more torque than the older 50cc saws like the 026 or 260 . I have owned a fair share of 362's and they are a good saw as well but to me if I'm going to carry a 362 I would sooner carry a 462 almost the same weight but more power  but more cost . I have not ran the latest husky 562 but Im sure its good to run as well, I have ran alot of 562's thou and cut alot of timber with them, the 562 xpg with heated handles is one of the nicest saws to run as those handles get very nice and warm

From the little bit of log building experience I have, and having both a Stihl 261 and a Husky 562, I would say the 562 would make a better all around log building saw.

Bummer I was hoping for more feedback. Especially on the battery saws for light cutting while scribe fitting. While most mid sized saws will work. just wondering what are peoples personal favourites.
