Title: log in issues
Post by: petefrom bearswamp on March 03, 2018, 09:31:38 AM
Lately fairly often when I try to log in I get a page with "orestry forum.com" on the top and a bunch of links listed including Forum forum, Minecraft ore, Forum minecraft, ore., several other minecraft related items including MANH KPAOT with a backwards N and the O with a vertical line thru it. Maybe Cyrillic letters?
If I back arrow and sign in again all is OK

I had the same thing happen today after entering my log on info. Went directly to a page called orestryforum.com that someone is trying to sell. I had already cleaned out my cache and when l went back to the login page I was actually logged in to this forum.

I only log on once and click "forever" in the menu.
I hardly ever have to log in at all.

This falls back to what I have said over and over and you guys just are not getting.  ALL OLD FORESTRY FORUM CONTENT MUST BE REMOVED.   I can tell you exactly what you are doing to end up at orestryforum.   When you login, you are using the old pre-propagated info in the login form. Either the username, or the password that pops in. QUIT THAT!  Type in the username. Don't rely on what pops in there. Then type in the password. DON'T accept what pops in there.

That login form is encrypted differently now. The old password and username combo was encrypted differently. If you get rid of the old info, use new info, you won't ever have a problem.

I followed direction this morning and had NO issues.
I had forgot about my i-pad in my drawer I hardly use.

I took it out, turned it on and IMMENDIANTLY clear my cache.

I logged right on the FF.

If you're not sure how to clear your cache, just google how to do it on your specific device.

I'll try the "new" method, but being the lazy sort I liked when the username and password were automatic.

You don't have to do it every time!  You just have to make sure the old info is gone, then return to normal.

Im still having the same issue.
Must be a firefox thing.
Whenever I click on the username box I get 2 things that pop  up.
one is that this site is not safe and the other is my username.
If I either click on my username or enter it manually my password automatically enters and when I try to log in it goes to that weird page.
I then back arrow and do it again then it gets me to the forum.
Im going to try with internet explorer which I abhor

What I did was after I logged in, I did not left arrow which puts you back to where you were before you logged in.  Instead, right mouse and then click on "home" or whatever the bottom entry is.  You should now be able to automatically login when you click on the FF favorite.

Mine worked the same with both Firefox and Edge.

The not secure error  is a broswer warning for any website now that has a login that isnt using https. Nothing has changed here with that.

Like I have said a bazillion times. DO NOT USE THE POPULATED PASSWORD!!!!~!!   ~!!!!!

Type it in!  You are still having issues because you are still using the old encrypted info that is populating the password field and the new field uses a different encryption.

Been laying low for several days now with a bad cold.
I have erased both the populated username and password and entered manually and still have the same problem.
When I back arrow and re do I get right in.

If you can't manage to get rid of the old info, then do this. QUIT LOGGING OUT.  Choose logged in forever.  Then you won't have to worry about it. There is no reason in the world to not do that if you are using your own computer or own device.

If I was there, I could fix the issue in 30 seconds, but I'm not.

Come on over Jeff
I can feed you some grits.
Snowing again here today we have had more snowy weather in March than the rest of the winter.
I never  log out manually and my computer wont let me stay logged in permanently, but I can for a day or a week.
just makes me log in after whatever time period i choose.

Then choose forever!  What you are telling me makes no sense.

In the past, I would try it with no success it would require me to log in each time.
I did it yesterday and so far it is working.
thanks Jeff I hope it stays OK from now on.
BTW I was getting to the log in page by clicking on the yellow Forestry forum heading and not the black enter the forum one.
Was this the issue?
I apologize for the frustration I may have caused.

For those experiencing trouble with this on an iPhone:

It's not intuitive to somehow to clear the Safari web browser's cache in an iPhone. You don't do it from within the App. You do it from the settings menu.

Open the settings App
Scroll down to Safari and click on it (should be in the 5th section)
scroll all the way down to "Advanced" and tap on it.
tap on "Website Data"

At this point, you have two options:

That's it. Cache should be cleared.

I did this and followed the instructions to log in fresh as shown above and it worked fine.
