That would make a good log truck its got the 20,000 pound front axle in it.  And im guessing a 3406b cat about 475 hp.

Whats in it for the tranny

ga jones

It's a 1989. It was a good friend of mine that owned it. It's in amazing shape for its age. No rust at all. No slag between the double frame.248 inch wheel base.24feet bac to end of frame.20,000front 40,000 rear, air ride. 15 speed. I'm adding a 20,000" HLM Hendrickson lift axle. And putting my 120 four stick prentice on it.I will also be adding timbren overload rubber blocks.ill post pics as I go.

That will be a nice truck, 3406 B will go along time. I did what your doing with my new log truck, bought a sheet rock truck and moved my loader and bunks over onto it. Your going to rear mount the picker right ?

ga jones

No. front mount loader.rear mount lift axle. We can't pull pup trailers in this state. Rear mount makes it harder to haul firewood.(nobody bucks it to exact lenght). I can keep the over all lenght of the truck shorter that way also.It will be the same as most all the picker trucks around here.24 feet BAC to end of frame. That gives me 22 foot of bunk space. Firewood will hang off 2 feet. (Or so)

Alot of time invested but worth it. Your gaining. Trying to convince a friend of mine that its cheaper and easier to put one together, alot of the stuff for sale is a rat trap. We put our Mack and Sterling together. Dont wanna sound dumb, but is it a weight thing or just no pup trailers in P.A ? Up here a cab mounted loader is getting kinda rare. Being rear mounted I still get 7-8 cord in the bunks, or about 4200 ft.

ga jones

80,000 gross truck and trailer.   73,280 truck. All that's left is 6,720

Must be the same in Maine. You don't see the pup trailers at all. They make sense if u can run them.

Personally I don't care for rear loaders. You can't hang a 32' log out the back of them. :D

80k.. ha. The guy who hauls my pulp is legal with 33ton on the truck and pup, I think 112k gross. Different strokes for different folks, I will never have another cab loader.

thecfarm

I saw the pups come and go. Seem like the late 70's.
This is a very common sight in Maine.
