Title: The 12 days of the Christmas Contest
Post by: Jeff on December 10, 2004, 07:10:26 PM
Simple rules.

1. Collect all 12 of the clues right here on this post. Each day has a member and a song part to create the 12 days of Forestry

Forum Christmas song. On the 12th day you need to email me the member name and what they bring to "the" song for each day.

2. You will have between the time I post day 12 (December 21 2004) until Midnight forum time (Eastern), December 23rd 2004

to email that list to me. You MUST include your Forestry Forum username

3. (THREE!!) INSTANT MESSAGES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR CONTEST ENTRIES! ::)

4. At any given time, some previous clues may be missing, they will never be all on here at the same time, so you will either

need to check in every day, or often, to make sure you get all 12.

5. You must be registered as a member of the Forestry Forum to participate, Not Registered? Well do it now! :)

6. Winners will be drawn from all the eligible entries at .

Prizes:

1st prize: One Can of Peas  ;D
2nd prize: LogRite Cant Hook
3rd prize: Two cans of peas  ;D ;D
4th prize: A variety pack from Rust Reaper.
5th prize: A LogRite Hookaroon

Sounds like fun, Jeff!   ;)  I say once we get the song all figured out, we all head to the studio, lay some tracks, and put it in the can.   ;D Who's singin' lead vocals?  Anybody got a tamborine floating around?  Any of you southerners got a jug?   :D  I'll bring my trombone along for the ride...

Hey.. I got all them already I'm sure

It should have been a Pukeko in a Punga Tree to start off though.

On the twelfth day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
Twelve piupius swinging
Eleven haka lessons
Ten juicy fish heads
Nine sacks of pipis
Eight plants of puha
Seven eels a swimming
Six pois a twirling
Five - big - fat - pigs !
Four huhu grubs
Three flax kits
Two kumera
And a pukeko in a ponga tree!

You might need to do a bit of research to figure out what some of our items actually are... but thats part of the fun  ::)

Hey Jeff,

I'd like a little clarification on the can o'peas. Are they good ol'USA grown peas? My next door neighbor is in the wholesale food business and he warned me against those cheap, lima bean colored peas from Bangladesh. They are cheap for a reason. Although the bugs do add protein. If I win the peas, can I trade them for a box of grits instead?

Percy, how did all those babushkas get orange  ???

Mmmm...holupchi  ;D

I think we're all getting into the holiday spirit, all these posts are talking about food now.  My dad said his grandmother used to make sauerkraut in very large wooden barrels, and she would bury a couple heads of cabbage in the middle to make holupchi out of....said they were the best DanG holupchi he ever did eat  :)

Serg,

âåñåëîå ðîæäåñòâî, çäîðîâüå è ñ÷àñòüå ê âàì.

Hope that translates well.   :)

And can someone please explain what a "holupchi" is?  I'm mostly German and Swedish, so it doesn't translate well into New England Redneck.

Holupchi (probably spelled wrong) is basicly a cabbage roll. My Baba(Ukrainian for Grandma) used to make the best holupchi I ever ate. I remember tomato colored sauce drippin offa my chin while I gorked an impolite amout of them babies down :D :D :D :D

As the forum ages, the significance of certain subjects is lost to the expansion of the membership.  Old threads hold the life's blood of the forum and sometimes an awareness must be made to explain the "institutions" to newer members who haven't had the time to explore the deepening depths of our history.

While there are many incidents that have molded our direction, the official cussword, DanG, for one, and the official forum measurement, Wack, for another; I am pleased to have been a part of the official vegetable lunch as a result of this story in the Funny Stories thread written by my obnoxious Little Brother, Charlie.  While I love him dearly, he is guilty of expanding a story to a size so large that it threatens rupture.

The Funny Stories thread was a frequented spot in its hayday.  Time has imposed its tell-tale quieting and it has been overlooked by newer members until it has, at last, sunken to the depths of all recorded history.  Charlies Story of a day with Tom was one of the highlights and lead to Peas being our vegetable.  Were you wondering why the first prize of the Christmas Contest was assigned to a can of Peas?  Well, now you know.

If you would like to apprise yourself of this tidbit of Forum knowledge, I have researched and now post  threads that will explain.

Well, I done did miss some clues.   :-/  I've been a working fiend the past couple of days...checking in when I can.  Alas, alack, no idea on the second or third days.  No phone call from Chet for me!  Though I already know what a real yooper sounds like anyway.  Hmm...Jeff...you shoulda made one of the prizes some real life yooper food too...like some pasties, shipped frozen, or maybe some Trenary Toast.   ;D  There's always next year's contest!  I'll take Trenary Toast over grits anyday of the week! ;)

I guess I'll have to make up some FF related second and third days--does creativity count?   ;)

Good luck to the rest of y'all!

:-/  Well, I'm completely clueless...I think I swing by the FF always at the wrong time.   ;)  I can't tell if clues have been posted, and then deleted, but if you read this thread from beginning to end, it just about makes yur head spin as much as "I know" does.

WoodSmith's "Five of em. I found 2 answers hope I picked the right one" means nothing to me at all.   ;)

I feel like I'm trying to figure out why you don't walk in the forest between 10 and midnight all over again.   :P

And I swear, I just saw a snow snake outside this morning...

Well, I'll be!  I haven't been going to the first page of this thread each time.  I keep assuming that the new clues would show up after the last reply, not on the first page.   ;D  That's why I've been so doggone confused by reading the thread!  If you never looked at the first page since day one, y'all'd be as confused as me!   ;D

It helps if there's some 'trees' to catch ya in case you start falling.   :)

Clue is up a little ealier tonight.  Tammy is taking me along to her "administrative" Christmas party.  She made me buy something other then jeans and says I gotta tuck in my shirt. I offered to paint my shoes, but no, I had to get new ones she said.

Does anyone know, at an "administrative" Christmas Party, do I always have to use silverware or can I eat chicken with my hands? 8)
Title: Re: The 12 days of the Christmas Contest
Post by: moosehunter on December 16, 2004, 02:33:40 PM
If it is fried chicken you MUST eat it with your hands. It's the law. Cooked any other way it is a personal choice ( unless you are at an "administrative" party with your wife. Then you must eat it the way she says.
Do we get a picture of you with your shirt tucked in?

Just be your good 'ol "administrative" self, and you should get by just fine - just wipe your hands on the cloth napkin after the chicken  ;D
What ??? no cloth napkins  ???  Then use the new pants as this is a marginal "administrative" party.   ;D
Above all, keep Tammy happy, and then you will be happy.  :)
