A cartage in a bare tree ;)
(Looks like 35 Remengton - 200 grain round nose)
Bib you got it wrong ::)..... Kevin gave him the wire to hang the DANG thing up ;)
close, its not a cartage. ;)
Bullseye on the caliber, other then its a 180 :)
Well, Bibbyman...I think ya nailed that one on the head...but yur making it easy for the rest of us! I guess we can all view this as the example clue...so we know what to do with the rest.
Sounds like fun, Jeff! ;) I say once we get the song all figured out, we all head to the studio, lay some tracks, and put it in the can. ;D Who's singin' lead vocals? Anybody got a tamborine floating around? Any of you southerners got a jug? :D I'll bring my trombone along for the ride...
QuoteWho's singin' lead vocals?
By Golly, I think we just figured out what prize 11 will be. :)
Naw yur all way off. ;) Kevin mounted da bullet dat Jeff didn't get his deer with. ;D
Now you just hush up till somebody wins ya. :D
:'(
Uh-oh...Santa's done started crying...somebody's being naughty and not nice. ;D
Hey! This is shaping up. Is it the Viet Nam version of the 12 Days? Huh? Is it? Huh? ;D :D :D
I'm gonna win. ;D
Hey Chet,
Been meanin to ask ya for sometime now.

It should have been a Pukeko in a Punga Tree to start off though.

You might need to do a bit of research to figure out what some of our items actually are... but thats part of the fun ::)
Ian
Ian,
You are right about having to do a search. You got me on must of those.
Jeff,
When you say Bibbyman is close, are you referring to his spelling? I need to know. I need to know.
Ayup, spellin', that would be it. ;D
Lanab, ILMAO and e-mailed the link to friends.
How 'bout a carTRIDGE in a bare tree?? You guys weren't at my Christmas party last night, huh? :o
DanG it all Jeff! I was just startin' to wean myself from my FF addiction and now you done gone an ruint it :D :D :D
Mebbee after new year's. . .
Hey Jeff,
I'd like a little clarification on the can o'peas. Are they good ol'USA grown peas? My next door neighbor is in the wholesale food business and he warned me against those cheap, lima bean colored peas from Bangladesh. They are cheap for a reason. Although the bugs do add protein. If I win the peas, can I trade them for a box of grits instead?
LogRite
I'm sure glad that thar cartrage ain't a 458 :D
LogRite, some of you apparently do not realize that the official vegetable of the forum is PEAS not grits. This goes back a long ways in forum History. :)
If'n I win 6th prize I want a song :D
I believe Jeff said that Chet can yodle ;)
On this here holiday season,
visualize whirled peas. :D
Hello Americans friends! Russian woodcutters congratulate you on Christmas! In a wood the fur-tree was born, in a wood she(it) grew, in the winter and in the summer harmonous green was! Kalinka kalinka kalinka mine! :-* :-* :-*
Sung with heavy Polish/Ukrainian accent
On eleven days from Christmas mine missus give for me
11 orange babushkas
10 two and a half bull year olds
9 half truck ton pickups
8 all my supper
7 4X2 slabs- for to build it chicken coop, keep da ducks in
6 overalls
FIVE GOLDEN RINGS(of kubasa)
4 holupchi
3 rubber boot
2 pitahey
and a bowl of sour cream for me
:D :D :D
Merry Christmas
Percy, how did all those babushkas get orange ???
Mmmm...holupchi ;D
I think we're all getting into the holiday spirit, all these posts are talking about food now. My dad said his grandmother used to make sauerkraut in very large wooden barrels, and she would bury a couple heads of cabbage in the middle to make holupchi out of....said they were the best DanG holupchi he ever did eat :)
Serg,
âåñåëîå ðîæäåñòâî, çäîðîâüå è ñ÷àñòüå ê âàì.
Hope that translates well. :)
And can someone please explain what a "holupchi" is? I'm mostly German and Swedish, so it doesn't translate well into New England Redneck.

Holupchi (probably spelled wrong) is basicly a cabbage roll. My Baba(Ukrainian for Grandma) used to make the best holupchi I ever ate. I remember tomato colored sauce drippin offa my chin while I gorked an impolite amout of them babies down :D :D :D :D

Sounds like the recipie Baba used ;D ;D
On the orange Babushka thing, those lyrics are from a Ukrainian comedian named Metro and I messed them up badly cause I suffer from a good but short memory;D ;D
I remember Nestor Pistor from Vegreville (French name but mostly Ukrainians) doing that one.
As the forum ages, the significance of certain subjects is lost to the expansion of the membership. Old threads hold the life's blood of the forum and sometimes an awareness must be made to explain the "institutions" to newer members who haven't had the time to explore the deepening depths of our history.
While there are many incidents that have molded our direction, the official cussword, DanG, for one, and the official forum measurement, Wack, for another; I am pleased to have been a part of the official vegetable lunch as a result of this story in the Funny Stories thread written by my obnoxious Little Brother, Charlie. While I love him dearly, he is guilty of expanding a story to a size so large that it threatens rupture.
The Funny Stories thread was a frequented spot in its hayday. Time has imposed its tell-tale quieting and it has been overlooked by newer members until it has, at last, sunken to the depths of all recorded history. Charlies Story of a day with Tom was one of the highlights and lead to Peas being our vegetable. Were you wondering why the first prize of the Christmas Contest was assigned to a can of Peas? Well, now you know.
If you would like to apprise yourself of this tidbit of Forum knowledge, I have researched and now post threads that will explain.

Did I miss the 2nd day ? I haven't been one here since last night but can't find today's clue .
You might want to try reading the first post again. :)
DUH.
That was a brain fart for me . I just blew right past that one . I 'll have to get a new higher hairdo next time . Oh I just remembered my hair is getttin mighty thin on top . Maybe that's from rubbin my head while I'm thinkin or talkin to myself .
Hello friends! On your forum very well, cheerfully! It is perfectly possible to communicate and understand each other. To friends from Ukraine greetings! I was there, all is good. Hi Serg:
Greets from the folks over the pole. :)
Merry Christmas.
I can't follow french as well as I should, so I'm afraid that Russian would trip me up real bad. ;D
Thanks for the link to the pea saga, although the pics had me thrown untill i checked the date at the top of the post :D
iain
QuoteI remember Nestor Pistor from Vegreville (French name but mostly Ukrainians) doing that one.
Vegreville....my mom lives in Andrew......I remember when I was a kid listening to CHED( happenin radio station in Edmonton back in the 60's, 70's80's?) and they used to talk(make fun) of IRVING KOLOGNEY's General Store in beautiful Uptown, downtown Vegreville. The locals in Vegeville didnt find it funny if you asked where the store was :D :D :D :D
I can't remember the whole song, but the last part of Bob and Doug Mackenzie's (sp?) 12 days of Christmas:
four pounds of backbacon
three french toast
two turtlenecks
and beer....iiiin a treeeeee :D
Serg, my memory fails me, but isn't kalinka some kind of berry? My Russian dictionary is at home :-/
Percy, the folks in Wagraville take it kind of personal. Don is now running a bar in Sherwood Park just out of Edmonton. Kinda wants to leave the Nestor Pistor thing behind
Well, I done did miss some clues. :-/ I've been a working fiend the past couple of days...checking in when I can. Alas, alack, no idea on the second or third days. No phone call from Chet for me! Though I already know what a real yooper sounds like anyway. Hmm...Jeff...you shoulda made one of the prizes some real life yooper food too...like some pasties, shipped frozen, or maybe some Trenary Toast. ;D There's always next year's contest! I'll take Trenary Toast over grits anyday of the week! ;)
I guess I'll have to make up some FF related second and third days--does creativity count? ;)
Good luck to the rest of y'all!
Paschale, don't give up now. Clues will appear disappear and reappear through out the contest. You have to keep checking from day to day. How could you miss the third as it is today?
Hello, friends! Ohsoloco, kalina a berry. A bush or a small tree. Russian guys do(make) self-made vodka on the basis of berries! :o :o :DStrong will drink much for Christmas! On health and happiness! :D :D Sergey
Serg, you Russians celebrate Christmas on January 7th, correct? I spent a semester in Kemerovo back in 1996, are you familiar with this city? It's not too far away from Novosibirsk :)
Is that a not so subtle hint about WREATHS, Jeff?
. . . now Urb you gots to play along :D
I went searching for ther picture of the old fart (me) with the forum hat and o can o peas but cant find it.
On the third day of Christmas SwampDonkey gave to me...
Three Wreath making lessons,
Two cans o' peas,
and a cartridge in a bare tree.
:)
There ya go. :)
Hello! Ohsoloso, Russia the multinational country! Give only an occasion to take a walk! December, 12 celebrates the constitution day, December, 25 celebrate Christmas Catholic. If speak that simple people concern badly to each other that it there is no validity. Friendship the world, love, happiness! I work over the former USSR much, Novosibirsk, Kemerovo I did not work. ;)Sergey
I love the way Serg translates everything in english. It is making the forum more global every day. Way to go Serg.
So how ya'll doing on this? Keeping up? I haven't had the normal ton of I dont understand emails that I usually do. :D Does this mean nobody is playing along???

Nah, thats O.K. :)
Seems pretty easy so far.
Guess one day and couple days later you give us the answers.

Not really, cause I make it up as I go. ;D The hard part will be getting your name drawn because I make it easy to get your name in the hat. :)

I got the answer to this one.
It's SWEET!
Five of em :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X
I found 2 answers hope I picked the right one
(https://forestryforum.com/images/03_21_04/rudy.jpg)
:-/ Well, I'm completely clueless...I think I swing by the FF always at the wrong time. ;) I can't tell if clues have been posted, and then deleted, but if you read this thread from beginning to end, it just about makes yur head spin as much as "I know" does.
WoodSmith's "Five of em. I found 2 answers hope I picked the right one" means nothing to me at all. ;)
I feel like I'm trying to figure out why you don't walk in the forest between 10 and midnight all over again. :P
And I swear, I just saw a snow snake outside this morning...
Well, I'll be! I haven't been going to the first page of this thread each time. I keep assuming that the new clues would show up after the last reply, not on the first page. ;D That's why I've been so doggone confused by reading the thread! If you never looked at the first page since day one, y'all'd be as confused as me! ;D
QuoteI feel like I'm trying to figure out why you don't walk in the forest between 10 and midnight all over again.
reminding ya it's because of the elephants! ;D
QuoteAnd I swear, I just saw a snow snake outside this morning...
You was lucky. I understand them things are really hard to spot. usually ya done busted your tail before you even know they're there. ???
It helps if there's some 'trees' to catch ya in case you start falling. :)
WoodSmith 8) 8) 8) Rudolph 8) 8) 8) we now have guidence ;)
Thinkin,thinkin,thinkin-------- ??? ???
Don't be too hard on yourself Paschale . It happened to me on day 2 . But Jeff was real quick to point out that I need to read the first post again .
Jeff's a pretty smart fella but I'll bet he would love to know exactly what I KNOW . ;D

Thanks
Clue is up a little ealier tonight. Tammy is taking me along to her "administrative" Christmas party. She made me buy something other then jeans and says I gotta tuck in my shirt. I offered to paint my shoes, but no, I had to get new ones she said.
Does anyone know, at an "administrative" Christmas Party, do I always have to use silverware or can I eat chicken with my hands? 8)
If it is fried chicken you MUST eat it with your hands. It's the law. Cooked any other way it is a personal choice ( unless you are at an "administrative" party with your wife. Then you must eat it the way she says.
Do we get a picture of you with your shirt tucked in?
Moosehunter
Just be your good 'ol "administrative" self, and you should get by just fine - just wipe your hands on the cloth napkin after the chicken ;D
What ??? no cloth napkins ??? Then use the new pants as this is a marginal "administrative" party. ;D
Above all, keep Tammy happy, and then you will be happy. :)
I once tucked my shirt tail in and it felt real funny. :o
Absolutely keep Tammy happy. Santa is watching :)
A long long long long long time ago I used to wear a tie everyday ???
(https://forestryforum.com/images/03_21_04/dentist.jpg)I don't like to make toys, wha what I really like to do, is make boards so people can have a nice house to live in, yah!
SEASON'S GREETINGS
So, Jeff, how was the party? Did you behave or did you get thumped repeatedly :o
Some of those parties are just plain uncomfortable and some are a hoot'n a half. Hope you and Tammy had fun. ;D
The Party was just ho-ho-hum. Meet the other shirts, sit down, eat, and come home. It started at 5:30, we were home by 8. Perfect!
So I Guess , everything went OK & Tammy isn't out looking
for another job ???
Shes actually doing a different job this afternoon. They are behind at the bus garage for what they need done before Christmas break, and the Mechanics assistant is off work. Tammy is on her way home to but on jeans and work clothes cause she will be helping change oil, greasing buses and fixing some lights to help get things done so the mechanic can leave with everyone else for Christmas.
The old Union is jest goona scream! HAH! Let em. Tammy does what needs to be done.
Has anyone else noticed that Woodsmith doesn't seem to need any input from the rest of us to have a really good time?
:)
Yea, he is certainly a happy little feller, isn't he. ;D
Whew, I think I've finally figured it out. That was exhausting.
QuoteHas anyone else noticed that Woodsmith doesn't seem to need any input from the rest of us to have a really good time?
:)
Yeah, I've noticed it to, and now that you've pointed it, I'm laughing pretty hard! ;D

Bumbles bounces!!
Yup! Woodsmith be a little strange. ::) He fits in real good around here. ;D :D :D
PARTY? ??? 5:30-8? ??? That couldn't have been a party! Parties don't start until well after 8. ;D ;D

Furby,
If you win it will be 12 pounds of grits and you'll have to eat them and like them. ;D
I wonder if I win the phone call from Chet, the honest to garsh yooper, will Jeff supply a translator. Chet might not be able to understand an honest to garsh Kentucky hillbilly ;)
Bob the honest to garsh hillbilly
;)
With my luck Minn. boy, I'll win a can of peas and WISH they was grits! ;D
Just had a small gooey brownie a little while a go, and my mouth is drooling right now!
I got mine sent about 8;15 GareyD ;D The cant hook and brownies are good but the brownies is so good thy don't last very long ;) :D
If I win the fone call from the yooper and talks to much yooper I now I can get back at him...... ;D ;D ;D.... I'll answer in french... ;D ;D ;D ;) can a yooper understand french ???
But then again I never heard a yooper talk so maybe I wont know its him and wont understand anything, maybe I should stick with the can of peas .

:-[ Guilty as charged! May want to change the line in the first post that says send the entries to "me" to the contest address! ;)
QuoteJust a reminder here, I have had several entries mailed to the WRONG address. They do not count as valid entries. You must mail your entry to the proper email address. It is given at the beginning of the twelth day. I have replied to those to tell them they need to do it again.
Here it is one more time:

We're getting a lot of entries! Must be the peas. 8)
"to me" is accurate. ;D
I think the high number of responses is due to the inclusion of a conversation with a REAL yooper. I know that I'm hoping for that one! ;D
I've talked to a few youpers and they talk just the same as us. It's the trolls under the bridge that talk funny. ::)
Woodmills:
I didn't realize it untill it was announced that marionette of Rudolf is 40 years old this season. I must be gettin too old to watch cartoons by now. ;D
That particular Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer movie has always been a part of christmas around here, I remember the first time it was on. :D
That was cutting edge animation 40 years ago.
Haven't watched it in a long time but its one of those things you never forget.
