Patty,

Did the form letter from President Bush say if he was in agreement with, or opposed to, the decision?

-Doug
(Not that there is any relationship between the eminent domain decision and post peak oil planning!  ;D )

There is no need to say 'unleaded regular gas'. It's all unleaded. Just say 'regular gas'. It's not the 70s anymore. (At least that's what my wife tells me.)

Neither Doug, it just said "thanks for your email, etc. " it was just an automated email response like the ones you get from any company.

Oh, by the way, oil closed today at around $57 and change.  ;D

This morning on the news I heard the city of Daytona is going to use the new eminent domain status to force a bunch of businesses off the boardwalk so they can hand the land over to a major Las Vegas developer.
Any of you Fla boys know anything about this?

I was cruising in the pickup this week and took a moment to drive by the place. Seems funny with all of this media attention to have this place a couple of miles away - on the way to the dump  :D

Think I`ll take a drive by the future site of the LOST LIBERTY HOTEL today. :D on the way back from the dump.
As EDK said it is only a couple miles from my place.

 No need to fatten up Weare`s fabulous five. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
The fate of the judge`s place is going on the ballot and the people of Weare will vote, Not the selectmen. ;D ;D ;D
Same as what happened to the cheif of police in Weare. (bad guy) hired by the selectmen. Always in the news for not so good reasons.
Went on the Ballot, Should the position of cheif be elected or appointed by the selectmen.  the town voted ELECTED. ;D Then we voted in a new chief, and he is doing a good job.
One of the selectmen said (on the town  cable channel) "The people of the town of Weare arn`t companant enough to elect a cheif" :o
He got plenty of calls and E-mail by some not so impressed people.

We got  one of those commie inspired county boards  in LaSalle county . 3years ago the landowners put an advisory vote on the ballot to stop county wide zoneing . Because it was too restrictive and costly  to a cash strapped county.  Won with 80% not wanting zoneing.  But the board chairman said that the people of the county don't know what is best for the county and is trying to push in zoneing through the back door .
This time around the ballot is for the board chair to be elected  not appointed or selected by board members.

In our litlle county...we voted down a reforendum to build a fancy new 20 million dollar high school......
so the crooked school board weaseled the system, taking ponters from other couty government and went around the people to get the newish current high school condemned...........after 3 engineers certified it as excellent!!!
Now we can look forward to a 4-5% tax increase annually for 20 years....for nothing!!!

Sorry to hear that , Buzz. Our town did about the same thing. They must have been planning it for quite a while cause the new road that goes by where the new shcool will be has extra lanes.

My real estate taxes in that town , now, cost more than what my mortage did 20 years ago  :o

Buzz is there any way that you can sue them and recover the money that they squandered .  They are public officials and are suposed to be doing what is ni the best interest of the comunity  If the comunity said NO  then they have a mandate to also say no.  Sell their property to cover any cost that can be covered . Garnish their wages ,pentions 401ks what ever .  It is time for thais crap to stop.
The Idiots that run the school board in Streator wanted to build a new campus on 40 acres north of town.  Because Mendota did it and then the football feild would not be three blocks from the school .  They didn't have 40 acres nor the money to purchase and build a school .
The next plan was to tear down a good old school building and replace with a new overpriced cheep building ,  People were still pizzed with that . so they settled on tearing out some of the class rooms to make an outdoor classroom  (That will never be used, Too cold too hot too windy its buggy  Its raining ,snowing  etc)   Big waste of money.   They need ed more class rooms so raze what you have  hual it too the dump , then bring in fill  compact and plant grass then build more ? makes cense? The dig up your parking lot for the new addition.

The way they got a big new school here was to run a bond issue for a huge amount of money. First time it got voted down, they ran it again a year latter, got voted down less that time, year later they ran it again. This time they sent flyers home with the kids telling us why we needed to vote for it. I was hot they used school money and supplies to do that, calls were not answered as to why they could do that. Next year people forgot about it and they ran it through with mostly teachers and supporters remembering to vote. Tore down a perfectly good school that they had run down with a lack of upkeep. The new one is huge but built poorly, our school tax is one of the highest in the state to pay for it.

Don_Papenburg

That is what they did here , quit maintaining the better built old building so that they could tell people that it was in disrepair and would cost way too much to repair .  So then it should be torn dow and a new one built.    The old building has some style and caricter that the new box has none of.

THIS is TRUE: 12 February 2006        Copyright http://www.thisistrue.com
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
SHELL GAME: In 2005, the City of Los Angeles, Calif., seized some private
land by eminent domain to build an animal shelter. The furniture
factory that was there for 20 years was "thriving," said the firm. It
cost the city $5.8 million to buy them out. But after just a year, the
city announced it wants to build the shelter somewhere else, so it's
going to sell the property even though the switch will add $5-11
million to its cost. And who is buying the land? A furniture
manufacturer -- not the same one, but another company that has
contributed $17,600 to city politicians. The expensive new deal is
better, says City Councilman Bernard Parks. The area is "one of the
last inner-city industrial areas, and so we are trying to ensure that
it continues to develop," he says, while "the original proposal impairs
the growth of a major economic development." Parks' election committee
received a $1,000 contribution from the company trying to buy the
property. (Los Angeles Times) ...The surprising thing isn't how easily
politicians can be bought, but rather how low their price is.

this is from the free subsription of this is true, we're getting a lot more of this coming into the open over hear

   Here in MS we have 2 bills introduced concerning Eminent Domain;

        1.  If land was obtained by E.D. 15 years or more ago and not used, the landowner can buy it back at the price it was sold.

       2.  The other Bill is to block the supreme court ruling

In the St Louis metro area....small municipalities are siezing private homes like CRAZY as speculators are comming forward with multitudes of hair brained plannes....all the politicos see are $$$$$$$$$
A recent deal has many people facing ruin....the developer failed to come through with financing backing out on scores of closings...with people having bought new homes already....costing the innocent home owners  fortunes and many nights of lost sleep and worry....all for a new mall!!!!!!
THIS is our ruin! >:(

Mr Mom

If it were me i would get rid of this way of getting the land.
If you want the land than you should buy the land from the owners.
