my neighbor has me sawing out the lumber for a deck/carport underneath. I'm looking for a way to connect the outside stringer to that posts. should i just mortise and tenon them?
the posts are 8x8 and the stringers are 3x8x12' i was thinking (and that might be my first mistake) of the top of the stringers should be flush with the top of the posts , but this would leave the top of the mortise open on the posts. anyone have a better idea? this is all hemlock lumber. a sketch would be appreciated.
maybe a 2" relief in the tenon?
thanks Brent

Laffs,

Could you start us off with sketch of what you are asking?

Thanks,
