Will I have went and did it I,ve upgraded my LT40 G25 WM for a LT40HDG25. I am going monday to pick it up in Mt.Vernon Missouri. The cranking and log handling got to be a bit to much on the back . Wondering if anyone had some ponters on hydraulics .

The valving is electric over hydraulic.  When you pull a handle pull it all the way.  Don't try to feather the valve you will burn up the little wire contacts and they aren't fun to replace.

Don't use the hydraulics much without the engine running.  It will kill your battery.

Install a little light like maybe a clearance light between the positive post on the electric motor for the hydraulics and ground and mount it outside so you can see it.  When your electric hydraulic motor is running this light should be lit.  It will come in real handy when you first experience a "stuck" solonoid.  If you aren't messing with your valves and the light is lit then you need to stop and rap the solonoid or you could burn up your motor.$$$

Get and keep a spare solonoid.

Other than that, you are really going to enjoy this upgrade.  l

You will enjoy the hydraulics. I upgraded this past spring from a LT25G11 to a LT40HDG25. What a difference. I also switched over to 0.045 blades, they do seem to cut better.

Of course, I got one of the bad solenoids too! I talked with Woodmizer about that and they said that the solenoid used is also used on military equipment and somehow they had produced a bad batch. Anyway, they sent me 2 new ones via overnight. No more failures yet.

Also, when you get the mill the idle may be low or the engine will cut off after a cut. Don't reset the idle until you have a few hours on it. Over time the idle will creep up and all will be fine.

Oh yea, after you use the mill for a bit you'll want the Accuset too!  ;D That makes it almost a no-brainer once it is set up.

Soon after we sold traded up to a LT40HDG24, our solenoid stuck.  I called WM and ordered a new one.  He told me to tap on it and maybe it would free up and work until the new one came.  That was a couple of years ago and it's still working.  I feel better about having a spare though.

Sure do like the HD.

When you have sawed about 200 M Bd-ft, remove the motor that runs the hydraulic pump and have the armature turned and new brushes put in.  The motor will quit working without warning when the brushes are worn out.  It will work fine on one use, not at all on another.  Watch for the extra stuff that seems to get in the way of the blade too.
I eat a high-fiber diet.  Lots of sawdust!

Congratulation on the new mill!

The only thing that has tripped us up on our new Super HD was getting a hose on the clamp caught up and breaking the fitting.  The fittings on the smaller plastic hoses are not readily available at the farm and home supply and all require crimping tools.

I found a fitting that is field replaceable with simple wrenches.  Here is the thread where I posted info on the fitting.  You may want to consider ordering a couple to have on hand.  This will insure you'll never need one!

Field replaceable hydraulic hose fitting.

When your are up in Mt. Vernon, say Hi to Will and Marty from Bibbyman.  They are a couple of great guys.

Also, if you get a chance,  have dinner down at Bootleggers  in Aurora while you're there.

I was able to change the brushes on my hydraulic motor without taking the motor out.  It was a little tricky but worked.  this was at around 1600 hours.  and yes it just quit, but I had already bought the brush kit.

Thanks for all the advice. Bibbyman don't know if I will have time to try Bootleggers or not. I will have a 7 hour drive both ways. It will be a long day Monday. Hope all the snow and ice is off the roads. Garry W I've got the simple setworks on it. How do you tell how high your log clamp is? The non hyd. I could count the notches on the clamp for the height.

Hope you're not planning to run in, grab the mill and run out. That's a lot of running for one day – especially with the short daylight we've been having lately.  They have a nice new Comfort Inn there in Mt. Vernon and I think they give discount to WM customers.  Will can get you connected.

We're only 5 hours one-way and we came down the evening before and picked it up the next day and returned.  Got there right when they were unloading it from the truck!

Can you believe there were three mills in that truck plus a pallet of blades and other stuff?

 8)  Good luck have a great trip and take the time to enjoy youself.. Once your home with it you will be too busy... You can't make a 14 hour trip legally..... You are only allowed 10 hours of  road time --- If your considered a buisness you are under those darn CDL constraints..
Oh what a difference the hydralics make went from an LT 15
to a LT 40HD36SU w/ accusett and lubmizer what a ride...
The back feels much better each day..... Have good time enjoy...

Bibbyman my wife said I could go up on Sunday . I will try the Comfort Inn . that is a great picture of them hauling mills . I was wondering how they haul them . Did they stack them on top of each other . The Weatherman talks like the ice will be gone . Will be working on getting electric trailer brakes on my pickup tomorrow . May have to stop by Pro Bass if they are open on sunday . 8)                                                               RMAY

RMay,

Heck if you're going up to Springfield you just as well take hwy 60 east to 5 and then south through Mtn. Home.  See some new country and stop by and have a cup-a-coffee.

If you are going up HY 65 you will be with in miles of me.  It is about 125 miles from Harrison to Mt Vernon if you go up to Springfield and get on I44.  It is faster and easier traveling.  There is a short way up through the back roads but it will take as long to get there.  You will need to make sure your trailer brakes work and that you are wired for them as you will need them when coming back through my hills.  ;)
The roads are clear since it got up to 50 today.

RMay,

They had them jammed in the trailer at an angle.  The first one went in with the far end in the front right corner of the trailer and the hitch up against the left wall. As the WMs are "skinny" on each end, they can jam the next one past the first with the off end against the right side and hitch end against the left.  Then the third against the second nested the same way. Then they had a pallet of blades and other stuff in the open corner left by the doors.

They had them all blocked down with 2x4s and double-headed nails and had metal plates over the support leg plates.  These shipping plates were lag bolted to the trailer floor.  Then they had some 2x4s nailed over some metal loops on the floor – then load binders over the mill and hooked into these loops.  Took awhile to get everything unbolted and nails pulled to get the mills out.

Arkansawyer I will be going up hwy. 65 to Springfield  & going west on I-44 to exit 44 then north on FR-1100. I got the trailer brakes on the pickup today. May be harder to go up the hills than down with my old 6 banger pickup.Good to hear the roads are clear.

Bib my new mill got to Mt. Vernon on Nov. 7 hope Will kept the wrappers on it.

I'm new to the forum and really impressed.  Very informative, occassionally funny and quite applicable.  I'm going hydraulic too!  Should be picking up my LT40HD from Mt. Vernon within the next 10 days.   ;D

Bro. Noble

Nice to have you Dan.

Just as well put yourself on the map and tell us a little about yourself.

Congratulations on the new mill to both of you.

I hope you guys are allowing a little extra time at Wills other than just mill business. My wife and I met Bibbyman, Pro Sawyer Mary, ARKANSAWYER, Renee, and others at a feild day there some time back. We were impressed with Wills whole set up from the mill to the kiln to the molder. Sure are some good people over that way.  ;)

Ah, so much to learn, so little time.  Being new to this, how does one reply to others, without having their message in from of me?  Arkansawyer, I am 20 miles north of Cuba MO near Owensville, with a Rosebud address.  I get the pleasure of picking my mill up next Tuesday, and yes Bibbyman, it will be my first WM.  I'm excited 8) 8) 8) 8) 8).  I hope RMay had a good day today picking up his mill and a safe trip home. Didn't mean to steal your thunder, RMAY, I was simply amazed at the timelyness.  Guess what?  I just scrolled down the page....  :-[ Bibbyman, I met Mary and your son at the small farm show a few weeks back.  Would you believe I went up there to look at that blue machine?  John Hicks, accuset and the smoothness of the WM, besides your wifes great imput, convenced me to go orange.  Lots of questions, Lots to learn... Can anyone direct me to the subject of Marketing, lumber brokers, veneer buyers and that kind of thing? What about licensing the mill for the way home?  Is there an insurance co-op. or sawmill specialist you can refer me to?

Welcome, Dan. Check the past posts for ANY info needed. Took me 6 evenings to read just the sawmilling past posts, when I joined the group. LOTS of great info here. Fla._Deadheader
