Chris Burchfield

Retired with last 17 years as Fire Marshal, spent 30 years with my department working my way up through the ranks.  On the way up I also worked wrenching on cars, machinist, small engine repair, recharging fire extinguishers.  Hobbies included building and flying UControl and radio controlled fuel engine airplanes, blacksmithing building my own coal and gas fired forges.  Welding as part of the blacksmithing.  Purchased a WM Super with all the bells and whistles in hopes of sawing in retirement.  I've done a few jobs, just word of mouth.  Last four years have been hobbled with mine and family health issues that were not contributing to availability in sawing.  Couple of days ago, had my first Kidney Stone issue that I've known of.  I went to the ER.  I don't go to the ER or to see Dr.s unless it is an absolute have too.  The rest of the time I cater to family needs including getting our only Grandchild/daughter to school or taking her to the cinema for her movies that come out.

I worked for an asphalt paving company for the past 16 years running equipment on highway and resedential work. The company bought out a sand and gravel/redi mix operation, so I learned to run a mixer truck to pick up some hours. The last 6 years I've been picking up work in the winter out in the woods driving truck, and running CTL equipment. Right now I'm in a transition, I quit my paving job and I'm trying to finish our house, hopefully going back to the woods soon but waiting to see what God provides.

Good thread ...

For the last 20 years I've owned and operated at different levels, both full time and part time, a sawmill and planing business. 8 mills in all. Haven't had much time to do any milling recently. Did some logging in my early days. Used to run forwarders up in WI during my early days milling. At one point in my life I worked 2nd shift as a union sheet metal worker running 14 different machines as a utility or "floater" as they used to call us because I could run just about anything and had an aptitude for math and programming the machines. Plus I had that good WI work ethic that the midwest boys are taught. I worked that second shift union job in tandem with my sawmill business making things go after I had gotten married the first time.

In between sales of mills, I sold new and used cars for a year and a half in WI. Left there as the #1 salesperson and was recruited into the insurance and securities business by a customer of mine that I sold a Suburban to. He was the VP of a large insurance company in WI. That has lead me progressively into a 13 year career as a Financial Planner, Registered Representative of FINRA, Investment Advisor Representative, and licensed insurance agent in multiple states managing many millions of dollars.

I also own an oil and gas consultation and negotiation firm that represents landowners in negotiating favorable terms for the exploration and negotiation of their minerals, namely oil and gas.

I also have a relationship with an investment bank through my broker dealer whereby I broker corporations in the mergers and acquisitions process both on the buy side and sell side. We also can help raise funding for corporations who are looking to expand their businesses.

I'm also involved with a company called Advocare at the Advisor level, which emphasizes healthy eating and proper nutrition, while showing people how to create extra household income and live a debt free life. If you watch Nascar, you may have seen the Advocare race team. Drew Brees is also their national spokesperson. Using Advocare's products my wife and I lost just over 50 lbs combined in roughly 6 weeks +/-. It made me want to get involved with the company.

Beyond that, my wife and I have a substantial amount of real estate and oil and gas interests ourselves to look after and maintain.

Needless to say I have a lot going through my head at any given moment. I'd like to slim some of it down, but would feel like I was missing part of myself if I let any one part of it go right now. Someday ....

In spite of all there is to do, I enjoy coming to the Forum to chum with folks I've gotten to know over the last 6 or 7 years. The wood business and what goes with it will always hold a special place in my heart. It's what I cut my teeth on as a young man and it taught me a lot of business skills and life lessons.

I'm an electrical engineer, these days I'm a manager/cat herder.

I'm an on-site supervisor for an oil company working the deepwater leases in the GoM. My official title is Drill Site Manager but the traditional oilfield description is "Company Man." I've held that position since 1981 first aon land and then offshore for the past 22 years. I currently work a rotation of 14 days on and 14 days off which I find to be perfect.

I started out roughnecking in East Texas in 1972 and am working for my fourth company since then. In fact, I'm on a semi-submersible rig in the Gulf of Mexico right now, securing the well and evacuating personnel due to the impending tropical storm forming.

October will be my 40th year in the oil patch and I have no plans to retire anytime soon as long as my health is good.
