What does "GTG" stand for? I take it that it's some sort of an event. It appears this has been brought here from another board. Would somebody enlighten me, please? Thanks in advance.
Shotgun, I beleive it means Get To Gether.

Thanks, Jon. I bet that's it.

Holy wah, what's going on here anyway?
Yup, Get-To-Gether: A gathering at a forum member's place for chainsaw related activities. Sometimes Racing 8)

Mill our own or order them. Cheaper for me to buy at .40-.55 lbf. I got monster poplars, but to drop, load, mill, cost more then a run to the mill.
Hey Troutfisher, What size bar you runnin in that last video. It looks like a 16. You are cuttin through them like butter tho. Makes me jelous!

yes, 16" bar but the tail is cut down to work with the 10 pin sprocket, so it's a little short.
Jeff squares or rounds, they all cut. ;)

When I left the mill, for aspen logs those size, we were paying 120 a cord at the gate.
I get my cookie stock from one of the trimmers that I help out with his saws and equipment .Tulip poplar, cottonwood etc . I'm down to pine now which is really not good testing wood .

Hey guys. I'm also fresh in from the other forum, the update made it uh... "not good" but more than that I find that there's been too much blatant douchebaggery going on over there. Thought I'd take a look here and see how it was. :)

I donated "tops" from a thinning/culling job on my place...we thin around 25 acres a year on my farm...have a few more years left to go before we are done.
As an aside; when I host our small gathering of friends, its analogous to have a few buddies come of and trail ride & bs about motorcycles; we blend the cookie cutting with a bunch of other logging/forestry related activities....last one we skidded a bunch of large tops (50ft typical) that we then used to run the saws blocking and limbing , then took some bigger & nicer logs to the camp area for informal races. Try to make these two day deals a range of activities so folks move around and do other things as well. A typical day will have woods work, lots of food, break out groups who do swap meets, project "show & tell", saw building or repair projects, MORE food, sometimes "new saw" show & tell, towards the end of the day informal cookie cutting races. On one we less time so we went out and found a tree for cookies and dropped it dragged it back to camp & spent the day doing saw building & repair/testing then cookie cutting ..with lots of food mixed in! Another we working milling into the day...Bottom line is I don't want the focus to be strictly on COOKIES!
You can get a lot of good ideas just sitting around passing camal dung, again the forerunner of BS .Ideas that do work, don't work or might work .
Then too you get a chance to see a lot of stuff you might not see otherwise .
A story .At one GTG I had as usual the Homelite 2100 S that is in my avatar on the TH with me .Another guy was there with a slightly different model of the same saw but complained it lacked compression .I had him try mine with the decomp off .He was a big old bruiser and could barely roll it .In examination of his I noticed the decomp lever mechanism was missing which explains the problem .
It wasn't that I was all that smart or a genious on 2100's but merely the fact because they are old and rare nobody was familiar with them .
Been here about as long as "over there". I recognize some of you. Welcome..

Civil conversations, without rude posters interfering is getting rare. I started closing up shop at AS in mid Dec. too many logbusters to deal with. The F&L forum at AS used to be a happy place, not so much anymore. The "hole" caused by being banned at AS, was filled in quickly.
I will remember to bookmark this site, I kinda forgot about it, sorry, my bad.
Glad to have you here Randy
For one reason or another some people either lose interest in a site ,get banned whatever .It's no big deal because I've been jettisoned from one I actually tried to quit and lost interest in several others because of personal reasons .
However having said that it appears by the scuttlebutt on the net that evidently one praticular site has annoyed more than several people here of late without going into details .Comes as no surprise to me because I predicted it several years ago .
I only wish I could use that clairvoyance in the stock market :D
I am kind of a knothead, but often irrelevant.

That may or may not be true, but I'm still buying your book if you ever write it. I want an autographed copy, though. Work is finally slowing down, so I can get back to what really matters: CHAINSAWS! I got a whole day in the shop yesterday, which is the first in over 6 months! If I ever get caught up, I may get my act together and do some barterin'.
Hah ha, Tim!
Looks like the first 500 or so will be signed, yep you are on the list.
I sent a bunch of pages to little Ray, being a kid, his range is limited, he is very honest about how he feels about it.
There are a few photos he didn't like, he says some are too much, he doesn't like seeing blood.
Oh hey Randy! Really good to see you here, I was actually fairly upset when I saw you got banned from AS.

I see a lot on names that I recognize. Al (Smith), if I had known that you were active here I would've spent more time here. I enjoyed your posts at AS and TH (how's Butch doing these days?).
Glad to see that Jeff is still making sure things remain civil. I was around when a certain group stormed in here and basically tried to take over the chainsaw forum. They got shut down PDQ.
I'm still active on the chainsaw forum at AS, so I'm not actually a refugee. I'm also not as inactive here as my post count indicates, I used to post a fair amount here in a previous life, but the chainsaw forum here was pretty low traffic. Looks like things have picked-up quite a bit.
I recall that the people here at FF were always friendly & helpful, and I'm looking forward to again spending some time here.

My user name here comes from a novel about a logging family. Formerly I never used the same handle when registering at sites with chainsaw forums, but these days I stick with one handle. Maybe I should ask about getting my FF user name changed.

I've never been banned over there, maybe I haven't tried hard enough :D. I did complain long & loud when a certain heavy-handed moderator managed to ban and/or run off about half the folks in the chainsaw forum. Al, I think that was about the time that you got fed-up and left for good.
At one time the owner found out that I was posting at TH and gave me some grief about it. I pointed out that I was actually suggesting, on both sites, that the folks keeping the "war" going should let it go.

Al if you have no use for the *goofy looking round contraption than goes on a side grinder with a chain wraped around it * I can forward you my address and take it off your hands , I kinda like those. :) 8)
Well since you mentioned it I was going to use it today but I couldn't find it .Not surprising .
It seems the county snow plow driver was taking target practice on a row of mailboxes and mine happened to be one .Soo in order to cut the post off I had to resort to a Stihl 200T .Actually two .The stock one was having one of it's moments but my little hotty fired right up and got with the program .
So what now .I gots ta soup up every danged saw I own just so it putts in winter time ???? Geeze !
:D Well ya could always get a little old hand saw and sweat it out ! ;D ;)
Hey now old Jeff has to admit it now .Since this "they came from other forums " business this site has had more traffic in the last three or so weeks than in the previous three months . 8)
By dear friend near Denver did you a favor or so it does appear .Strange how things work out . :D
Yeah, but sawmilling and logging remain the most popular (outside of the general board). But there has been a little boost in membership in Dec-Jan for sure. Plus a couple or three new sponsors in the last half year. 8)
I don't know of any forestry related forums with the traffic the FF has. :)
Why sure that makes sense . I mean you have a sawyer running the place .
Butch is a climber therefore the site has a lot of arborists and tree care professionals .
The Buzz I can't say other than a bunch of recreational climbers but then again one of the owners is a world class competitor in that stuff .
Magnus is a chainsaw collecter .
As they say birds of a feather flock together . ;D
Well ya. Most sawmill owners, woodlot owners and loggers have a chainsaw. :D
I've had some folks ask me about a good site for milling info, and I always recommend ForestryForum. I do confess that when I'm asked about chainsaw info I mention a couple of other sites :-\,, which site depends on if they're intersted in newer saws, or vintage saws.
It would be nice if certain sites would allow links to similar sites, but I understand why risking having members 'jump ship' isn't a good idea.
That said, I'm glad to see the ForestryForum chainsaw forum getting more traffic 8).

I agree. Some folks stay pretty much with one site, others are active on several sites at the same time, & others will drift in and out. Sometimes I get tired of reading about chainsaws (blasphemy :o!) and wander out into cyberspace to pursue other interests.
Google is your friend ;).
Chris J.
The reason for not allowing links to other forums is not to keep members from telling people about other forums. Its a catch all rule to stop trolls or malcontents from using your forum as their indiscriminate means of spamming and advertising. You can't tell them no unless you tell everybody no. Its just one of those things.
It's no big deal but I see your point .
Hey, Jeff, I've occasionally posted a link to woodheat.org a non-profit site that has some pretty good info on burning wood safely and efficiently. I hope I wasn't violating any forum rules... I've never noticed that the links were removed or censored.
John Mc
I don't see everything, but since I own the place, everything is at my discretion. ;) Generally, if a link is posted in order to help someone, I won't say anything. Now if you were posting the link every time someone mentioned firewood, then it might raise my hackles. :)
I've probably posted it 2 or 3 times. It's definitely just a helpful informational site. No advertising or commercial ventures, so it probably passes the "spam/advertising" test...
