You bet! It's definitely a soft maple. Silver maple has a more shaggy plate like bark than red I do believe

Maple and certainly suitable for furniture!

Soft Maples are still a hardwood, and perfectly OK for furniture. 

It's just softer than the "Hard" Maple species. 
Weekend warrior, Peterson JP test pilot, Dolmar 7900 and Stihl MS310 saws and  the usual collection of power tools :)
