One of logrite grandsons bought a chainsaw carving at Boonville. What is best way to preserve clear for indoors. Cocerns about smell, dust ,carpets. Suggestion used might get an extra brownie!!!!!   Homer

I always heard that good old shellac worked good on them things.
I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok, I work all night and sleep all day

A thinned down varnish or poly like Watco Oil would be simple without a surface build up.
I do what the little voices in my wife's head tell me to do.

I will ask Tam and Kevin this evening, if they want a gallon or so, of what I have around. ;D

PS:  I forgot to ask them.  I have another chance on Saturday. 8)

I agree with getoverit. Shellac will seal in smells and sap and seal out moisture.  Varnish or Watco Oil will smell like..........well........it's smell like varnish and Watco Oil. And that stinks indoors until it dries real good.

What I use. Spar Varnish. About 3 to 4 coats. A coat of oil based sanding sealer first.
It will  start to get glossy at about the 3 rd coat.
Is it going inside or out.
If inside  dont place on the carpet or on the hardwood floor.
Place something between it and flooring. Otherwise it will stain the carpet.
I use the clear vinal runner ya buy at the store.
If ya have any other questions give me a shout.
