I go annually so today was my day...again. I went to a new (to me) Dr. here to keep from driving 60+ miles. He froze 6 spots which is about my normal and I go back in one year. I suppose that I am fortunate considering how much I am outside.

This is my normal "nest" when sawing.

Nope, that would be a Proctologist. A Gastroenterologist takes care of the top end.

really Lynn, really? the proctologist only takes care as far as the finger can reach, the Gastroenterologist goes as far as he can, both top and bottom with a scope! maybe 8 feet long. or so it seems!

that is the old joke. what is the difference between a rectal and oral thermometer.?.. the taste. yes, different scopes. and yes, the proctologist does the anus.

It is just fun to morph annual to annal, medical humor. After 40+ years of medicine, it just happens and little to be done about it!

I see this thread ate my post I wrote right after Tex Ranger and that y'all have done got off track again from the original thread.

I met my dermatologist when I set up to have a spot removed off my forehead 18-20 years ago. It and one he found and removed off my back turned out to be skin cancer so they went back and cut off another 1 cm margin all the way around both but found no more cancer cells. I went back twice a year then dropped to annually. I wear long sleeve, dry back, "fishing" shirts and a baseball cap when outside and have had no more issues with skin cancer.

When I go in he usually freezes several skin tags and has shaved flat a few moles for me. Several years ago my feet and hands got scaley and cracked and after several months and a biopsy he determined it was a "contact dermatitis" which basically told us nothing as they have no source. He gave me a couple of sample shots of Dupixent which, for me, was a miracle drug and knocked it right out. I took it a couple times a month for a year or so. Co-pay was about $50/shot. I reduced the frequency and now only take it "as needed" 1-2 times a year when there is a breakout. Usually it take 2 shots to knock it out.

My dermatologist is a critical part of my medical treatment.

My frozen spots are sorta "weeping" today so I blotted them dry and smeared on a dab of Mupirocin.

My grandma had a couple spots treated when she was in her late 80's. It was kinda funny, she always wore a wide brim straw hat and held up a piece of newsprint to the window to keep sun off when riding in the car. Did that for years, didn't help I guess.

fortunately, those "tests" are getting replaced by other technology. when I was a resident, you could not admit a patient to the VA without a documented rectal exam. When more women began in the military and therefore being in the VA medical system, it was debated whether they also required a rectal exam... they do not have prostates. Now with psa, ultrasound ect, I rarely do them. now it is more likely to evaluate for foreign body, and I won't go into detail on that one, as I know there are those of weak constitution on the forum. For those who feel I am off color, you should hear the things I do not talk about.

I remember a doctor in the mideast doing a finger wave and told me to bend over, spread my legs, turn my head to the right and cough. I asked him why I needed to turn my head before I coughed. He replied "So you don't cough in my face." I like it when a doctor has a reasonable explanation for asking you to do something.

My first overseas job was with the Saudi Navy and they sent me and another new hire to their hospital for a physical, I guess to verify the one we had done in the States was accurate. They dropped us off with no guidance and neither of spoke any Arabic. We wandered from office to office till we wandered into a women's waiting room and a bunch of black clad women jumped up and started putting their veils on and yelling "Haraam, haraam!" (which is Arabic for Forbidden BTW). A nurse came and shooed us out. They found a guide to walk us through the rest of our tests.

I'm getting to where most of the docs I see are female, not a problem. I've thought that the two fields where small hands are a plus is proctology and dentistry but I don't want a dentist that does both.
