hello forum friends,
i have a friend that had to remove a project from his house because the live edge maple he used started to develope worms turning the wood to powder. how could this have been prevented?

Sounds like it was powder post beetle.  They were probably in there because the logs laid too long.  Ash is quick to get these.  I know of a handle plant that used to wet down their logs in the summer to prevent powder post beetle, and to keep the logs fresher.  Kiln drying would have killed them.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
