Title: whats the difference in hydro axes?
Post by: semologger on February 01, 2013, 08:24:19 PM
i am looking in buying a new to me cutter i want to update to a saw head. I found 2 511 ex and a 611ex. is there a whole lot of difference in these machines. I figure its like a  440 john deere to a 540. The 611 is 3 grand more than one or 7 than the other. The one thats only five i trust the guys that have it and its been taken care of really well. I also found a deere 643D for 12000. My buddy said buy a track machine but i know nothing of them. And i doubt i can get  one of the for around 25 grand. i would like to have a track no doubt.

get the 511 ex. its not to big or too small. since you cut alot of pine. the 611 will cut just about anything in the woods, but its big. the deere 643d is older than the hydro axes too.

forgot to mention i am starting to cut oak pulpwood. And also oak sawlogs on some jobs. I bought a 410D we put our delimber on it. I plan on staying with pine cutting as much pine thinnings as i can but see point on getting around in thinnings. but i am still keeping my 3 wheeled hydroax with the shear.

do either machines have the big single post head? they work good for controlling the bigger wood. once you get a sawhead you will prob wanna sell the 3 wheeler :D be careful with some of the larger oaks in the delimber- i know of two crews, who have ripped the delimber right off the trailer :o
