Quite a few years ago, a good friend that lived in the Kansas City area went fishing in one of the parks in KC, not sure if it was a lake or river. He had his two young boys with him and they were just fishing with a can of whole kernel corn for bait. He just put corn on one hook and laid the rod down on the grass while he attended a problem with one of the boys. In the meantime a duck walked up and swalowed the corn, hook and all. He said you just can't imagine how much attention you can gather when you reel in a very disturbed duck with a fishing pole.  :D :D

So if you want to try a similiar adventure, try one of the parks in KC.  8)

I was wanting to go gigging but that aint happenin. Went and looked a current river at noon and it is rolling and a chocolate milk color. Wont be no giggin in there in the next week or 2. Sorry I don't know anything about KC fishin spots. You could google and get something close I bet. Let me see what I can find here real quick.

sure that sounds like fun. Do i have to throw the duck back of can i take it home and eat it? I have been doing some searching around and have found a couple lakes i might hit tomarrow. One is a lake you have to pay 8 dollars a day its a private lake that they stock.

My sister will be getting her boat ready to go gig pretty soon. Ya the river looks nasty right know.

Do you do any gigging? You may have to let me know when and where you go and I could meet you there and get aquainted. I dont have a boat but I got my own gigs and am pretty handy with them.Let me know if it is something we can maybe plan out.(once the rivers clear up)

thanks for the info i havent found much. I have never been my sister never has called me and told me when she was going. But i live 5 minutes away from her know so hopefully she will let me know this year. I will have to talk to her about it maybe we can work something out.

I am trying not to use up all my free passes with the old lady yet though. Deer season coming and all. I just bought a camper so Its going out to the farm. Hopefully i will be spending alot of time out there. I hunt on a buddy of mines 480 acres out gatewood mo.

semologger

Adam you need to talk to Ed your boss about letting  us go fishing out his farm. He has so many ponds to fish on. Hopefully the cows havent ruined all of them. I remember fishing on the when i was a kid before he bought it. I drive by it all the time and my mouth waters looking at all the ponds.

ADAMINMO

You know I have never been to Ed's farm. Everyone says it is nice and alot of people from here have went there and fished.I am more into gigging than rod fishing. I do go rod and reel fishing some but not alot. Will probably be more now since my son is hooked on fishin and huntin. Let me know if you go giggin sometime and your sis don't mind. I love to gig and put my fair share in the boat and sometimes others if they arent that good at giggin.

Might be about a 30 minute drive, but lone star lake outside of lawrence is a nice lake.

Call Douglas County, bet they can even tell if the fish are biting.

Lake Jacoma in south KC is a pretty lake...maybe 500 acres or so.  Nice channel cats have been taken and the lake is about the closest you will get to an Ozark lake in north Missouri.  It has some ramps built out into the water, perfect for fishing off the bank.  Longview lake is bout the same size but a typical prairie lake.  It would be usual to see a lot of deer along with some really big bucks at this lake.

Don't know squat bout the fishing regulations...best ask.

Thanks guy i will look them up. I am staying up by the KCI wich is North West Kansas City. I wish there was This many lakes around the house to fish at. i guess i can fish for about an hour then go to the next one. We have the river but its all private land. And with no boat makes it  hard to get on the river. Most of the lakes are private.

Do you usually gig at night (may be a dumb question, but have never gigged for fish) ??

And what do you usually get?

Is today the opening of the gigging season in MO?

Wish I had the time to take you to my neighbors pond, but I have to haul hay today. It's got to be one of the best fishing holes in the city. Someone caught a 4lb-12 oz crappie out of it a few years back ( state record but it was never registered). My daughter hooked a 10lb- 4oz largemouth a few years ago. If I don't catch at least a dozen largemouth in an evening it's a big disappointment. Fishing won't be very good now anyway. After all this rain the water is like thin mud.
My job is to do everything nobody else felt like doing today

semologger

I figured the rain had it messed up.  I would rather be next to the water than in a mall. ;D. I would of helped  ya haul hay even. I will be back up here next year same time. So i will have to let ya know. Sounds like you have some nice fish there. Thanks sir.

Yup .... yesterday was opener of gigging season. We do gig at night up till 12 midnight. You can only gig "rough" fish . Carp , yellow suckers , hog suckers redhorse and fish of that type. Bass , crappie , cats , and other game fish are illegal to gig.I think it is a 25 fish limit per gigger per night.I would have to double check on that number but it sounds right. It is fun to do. If you ever get the chance I suggest going. The colder part of the year is better as the fish don't go as fast with the water being colder it sort of calms them. I didn't get to go last night. The river looks like chocolate milk flowing deep. May be a week or 2 before it clears up. I will post some pictures in a new thread when I do go.

Coon

What do you guys mean by "gigging"?   I never heard the term before and I have been around fishing all my life.

You just haven't been fishin in the right places. :D :D :D  I thought about taking a picture of my equipment but it is packed away someplace in the container.  We even have specialists that make the gigs. ;D
