I traded some timber for a old vertical band saw that's a non runner with rubber coated wheels and I want to now remove the rubber coating and crown them. The wheels are 65mm wide, so my questions are can they be crowned for 3" wide blades and if whats the specs to crown them? A mate of mine has a big lathe but we don't know the specs on crown high vs low and were the crown high must be. I have heard it must be 1/3 from the front but need some advise/guidance.
Thanks

What size blade did it run before? You also have to make sure the rig can handle the tension a 3" wide blade will put on it.

There is no blades with it so I don't know, but its build solid and heavy like all old "junk".

If your going to crown the wheels, and have a large lathe, you might as well narrow the rims to use common 1 1/2" bands. Frank C.
