I spent a few days on the North Shore Folk School learning how to build a dovetail log cabin.  The time was well spent and I now I understand dovetail construction, which I plan to use for the sauna at The Stump Ranch.  Note: I have many additional photos posted on my blog.

I enjoyed this class and as Bigshow mentioned, the school is right on the shore of Lake Superior so it doesn't get much better.  It was quite nice to see how to layout and cut these dovetails.  I had read a few books and watched some videos, but I really wasn't understanding the dovetail notch.  Once I saw a couple of them cut I figured it out.

In a few weeks, I hope to get started on the sauna, where I will make a dovetail structure.  The gaps for chinking will not be quite as wide as the structure we built in the class.
