Does anyone have any experience with running a skidder or forwarder in the woods with just 2 wheel drive .How much success have you had ?  If the rear end goes out of my machine i was thinking of just disconnecting everything and running two wheel drive .

I don't think you will get around to good. If the rear end goes, it will have a hard time pulling with all the wieght on the rear. With the front end blown, which happened to me, you have a hard time getting around at all. Better off fixing it than deal with the aggravation.

yepp ! thats the question... front pulling the back wheel anchors being pushed by a load of logs...!!!! not a pretty site going down a ruff slope with any degee of angle... fixing the rear drive is not an option!!!!

Last year we had a u-joint go in the back end of the forwarder and with the lock-up engaged it wouldn't move with 1/2 a load of wood on and would barely drag itself to better ground empty.

Fix it, they were built as 4 wheel drive for a reason.
