I was cleaning the rust off the table of the powermatic planer that I bought at the auction and started revealing these scratches in the cast iron. I dont think they will affect the performance, but just curious how it happened. A boatload of nails in the lumber? I have seen a few older planers with similar gouges.

I had some small ones on my planer also. I believe someone had some heavy thick lumber with some pieces of metal in them. Like Sheetrock screws or something of that nature. They sure can cut groves, but they don't make any difference in mine. bg
