Starting on my walnut tabletop using 6/4 x 12 to 18 inch wide clear slabs that started as over 10 ft long. Got out my Makita track saw and removed all the live and natural edges plus white wood that I had carefully tried to preserve since cut.

I love that Makita track saw for straightening thinner slabs and it cuts glue line straight. My wife doesn't like the live edge look so it broke my heart but I enjoy her cooking. Well this time of year we use lots of kindling so I now have a good supply of designer live edge very valuable walnut kindling. This is some of it, the rest filled up the kindling bucket. Happy wife, happy life and this stuff burns awesome.

@21incher , that's "highly valuable" black walnut kindling.
Anything someone can design, I can sure figure out how to fix!
If I say it\\\\\\\'s going to take so long, multiply that by at least 3!

Cutting that off made me feel like the time my wife baked a nice crusty loaf of bread and my grandson was over. He took his slice cut the crust off and tossed the crispy crust in the garbage. I asked why and he just didn't like crust. Wasting the best part and keeping the plain generic center.  ::)
