Good moisture check method?

If the hole is larger, even if the top is sealed with caulk, etc., the humidity from the core can move in the hole to the surface.  It is much better to dry I'll a 90% hole and then use shiny nails. The nails will measure the wettest spot, which will be where the tip is, insulated or not.
