So, from time to time the need arises where I need to climb a tree to set a line (usually trees close to buildings, utility lines etc.). I did a stint as a danger tree faller for a ROW crew last fall, and they needed another climber so I got pressed into service. We used a saddle and two fliplines (non steel core, working around electric you know) hooks, and a rope. My personal gear consists of a belt, hooks, and a flipline made from a piece of climbing rope. I really want to try a steel core flipline but haven't a clue as to which one to get. Any opinions? (I know no one here has any opinions ;) )

I only work old iron because I secretly have a love affair with my service truck!

Yale, get the fattest and longest you can afford.

I am a little partial to the old school manila flip lines but mostly cause thats what I learned on.  That and they feel a little better in the hand, not to mention seems like they hold up to abrasion a bit better then the synthetic, but thats only an oppinion.

In reality though they are all pretty good
well that didn't work
