Cutting pine lap siding, my plans whatever the size log, I plan on cutting my cant 8" wide. My plan is to make the cant as high as I can, taking lumber off the sides, So, taking a 20" log and flipping it a bunch of times, come out with say a 8"x 16" cant or whatever. When I get close to the pith, should I flip it 180? Say box the pith into a 8x 1 1/2" or what it takes? Or would the pith work out for lap siding? I saw the trick of tilting the cant to make lap siding and that is my plans. Y'all have to remember I'm running a manual mill. ;D

Thanks for the heads up. 8)

Oh, picked up a couple fresh cut pie logs today. Even with stuff running out. I'm looking forward to try cutting lap siding.

With pine, just center the pith in the cant and saw right through it.   Don't worry about it.  If it was oak or cherry, different story.
