was asked to resaw some recycled beams to go into a new building.

had to cut down some 18" x 14" x 3.3m long recycled beams. when we arived the beams were actually 14m long. they musta come from some nice trees. 18" x 14" x 14m long iron bark and tallow wood free of sap and some have no heartwood.

they wanted 12 x 14s but because of the checkouts were to deep. we ended up having to cut them into 330mm x 260mm.

got a bobcat in to shift them all onto some skids so we could actually move them, just. (about 800kg each) bobcat could not carry 2 at once.

also got a heap of 8x5s from the top between the checkouts

and a bit of really dry frewood

each beam took 10 mins to cut from when we stated loading it till we were sliding it out the other side. the rest of the day was spent pulling nails out.

the site superviser assured me they had been denailed and that tehy had a wand there. tehy had a wand alright but the battery lasted half a day.

here is what i pulled out and there were 4 of us denailing them so this is only about 1/3rd of the nails removed.

only busted 2 blades luckily.

so we had to cut 260mm x 350mm.

was a bit of a muck around getting everything setup.

but once we were level all was good.

we screwed down some 3x 2 countersank the screws half way then skimmed the top off. so it was perfect.

marked on the uprights the different heights. 260mm, 280mm, 350mm and 330mm.

slid 1 in and lined it up. then marked on the bolster where straight was.

set blade at 280mm to come in under checkouts. about 130mm from top.

moved 60mm in from edge and cut off checkouts, then took a 200mm wide beam out.

leveled off the top.

rolled 180* and dropped the mill down to 260mm mark.

ran the 20mm off that side.

rolled 90* and raised the mill up to 250mm, ran the 20mm off the top.

rolled the thing 180* and run 20mm off the other side.

btw they are heavy.

I'm sure that you will recover some very nice lumber and beams.  As dry as it is, it should be stable.  Specialty jobs like that can be very interesting.  I use an hourly rate to price those type jobs.

they are coming out nice. 

i am doing it on an hourly rate.

i charge $120 an hour.

from arrival on site till i leave.

if they didnt want to be charged $120 an hour for denailing they should have had it done

thats for me and me tailor. there was also the 2 chippies denailing as well.

the top of the next one to be cut has over 50 nails in it.
