Washington, D.C. - The American Tree Farm System® (ATFS), a program of the American Forest Foundation, has named Trevor Evans (Derby,Vermont); Robert and Ingrid Sonnenberg  (New York Mills, Minnesota); Salem, Dianne, and Patrick Saloom (Brewton, Alabama); and partners Jim Cota, Robbie and Scott Melcher (Sweet Home, Oregon) as its 2010 Regional Tree Farmers of the Year.

It really takes hard work and record keeping to be nominated even at the local level.  I couldn't imagine State or National level.

Maybe the Sonnenberg article had a misprint.  800 trees per acre is some mighty close planting.

There are a lot of excellent Tree Farmers around the country, but would not have been surprised to see our Missouri  State Tree Farmer mentioned. Actually I'm disappointed, as his Tree Farm only fifteen miles from ours, his whole family participates in several woodland-conservation projects, as well as many others in developing what nature has to offer, as growing mushrooms, making maple syrup, and wild fruit jams and jellies.

You must have someone to toot your horn. I think by the nature of tree farmers we just as well are satisfied  to live long enough to see our  grandchildren enjoy and appreciate the efforts of our labors

Thanks,  that's sticking them in tight.  About a 7-8 spacing.
