logman,I've sawn quite a bit of pine that was not fresh, most all for personal use.Yes it was blue and yes there were worm holes but mostly in the jacket boards. You could try CL,someone like myself in your area might be able to make something out of them.Good luck,it's time you caught a good break.

New to the forum, like to say hello!! I was curious if you had pic of the brake band that you put in. I just got my brake and refurbished and there was no back tab on it. Had a new one made but have no idea how it originally was in stalled.

Did you have the tab on back? My guess is mine never had one on it, my band was skinny on on side and brand new on the other.  I bought it used and looks like there should be a bolt in the back to hold it center. Thanks for the reply!!! Thought I was the only one to ever own a c4 till I found this forum!!!

A little back round. I was skidding a load of logs out and the motor died like right now. The bracket that holds the sand on snapped.  My guess is there was nothing  to hold the band center on the back of the band and when it caught nothing good happened.

Thier should be slotted bolt on the back side to hold the band center. It is slotted because it is supposed to be safty wired to prevent it from backing out. Your repair should hold up as lond as your weld is good. I completely rebuilt my whole brake system and it works for me.

New planitary on the way be at my door step tomorrow.
Can I ask where you got it from?
My I can show a very similar picture with busted planatry bits everywhere :(

Good to  see another c4 out and about!
Mines gathering dust currently sadly..

Gear I run;
Woodmizer LT40 Super, Treefarmer C4D, 10ton wheel loader.

Probably try one of the NA forestry machine parts suppliers. Measure all the dimensions to match up what they might have.
e.g Timberparts  Timberparts, used forestry equipment parts and components specialists

A local gear cutter could probably remake the gears necessary.

I got it slightly used from a guy that works on forestry equipment. Harolds in maine has them but super expensive. And the old c4 is doing what its meant to do.

I always did hope an old broach and hobb would cross my path at the scrap yard but it never did happen.

Anyone ever tried someone like Boston Gear (Speed Reducer, Gear Drive, Variable Speed Drives | Boston Gear)?  They have a huge selection & I wonder if the gears might be standard off the shelf items.

If you can get the gears reasonable enough, relatively inexpensive bearings, seals & machine work will take care of the rest.

Never tried i seem to have no trouble finding parts for it. I do need to find a new output seal for the pto on the Braden winch.

My goodness you lost two planetaries already? Well now that certainly took the cream off that machine I bet! At least you now know what's going back into it.

logman81

I broke one planitary and one spindle, the other side was a wheel seal. But yes all new parts and alot of love. Still cheaper than a new machine payment and they dont make them this small anymore. Sooner or later everything will be new and have no issues and ill have a nice vintage skidder to log with.
